Just diagnosed: Wondering about different machines?

Hey all, I'm so glad this forum exists.

I just got the results back from my overnight sleep study and the results were as follows:

The patient demonstrated Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The patient had a baseline AHI of 22.2/hour with a nadir oxygen saturation of 91%.
The patient's oxygen saturations remained at less than 88% for 0.0 minutes.
The patient's sleep was fragmented.
The patient had reduced sleep efficiency during this Polysomnogram.
The patient had a normal number of Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep during this Polysomnogram.
The patient's EKG demonstrated normal sinus rhythm.

Specific Recommendations and Plan:

The patient should be started on AutoCPAP with initial settings of 4-12cmH2O. Further adjustment of the patient's treatment settings may be required to fully control the patient's obstructive sleep apnea.

So I am wondering about machines. I may end up buying one myself because it may take a while to get another appointment for a mask fitting, etc (my area only has one sleep center for 1000s of patients it seems). My insurance would cover a machine but I will see how long it may be until that happens.

The Resmed Airsense 10 seems good and seems to fit the AutoCPAP recommendation? I am wondering about the settings they recommend, if I get my own machine and adjust it myself, is this a good place to start? I'm 31 y/o female and in a healthy weight range if this info helps. I also know that I will probably start with a nasal mask or nasal cushion for fit.

Thanks commmunity for any help with this journey. I am remaining optimistic and hopeful that I can get some good sleep again...

Sounds like you're on it. Airsense 10 Autoset is the one you want. These are available on the used market for 200-300USD around me... don't know where you are. Make sure that a used machine a) doesn't come from a smoker/pet home (if allergic) and b) doesn't have more than 5000hours on it... for a machine that old I'd expect a discount, even though they can run reliably for 20,000 hours. There were some good sales recently, they seem to have dried up... folks are demanding the 10 instead of the 11, prices are about equal right now.

Your insurance will want to go through a DME... this can take a long time. If you haven't met your deductible for the year then you might end up paying the same as getting a new one online... about 800USD is what I'm seeing here.

Don't set it for 4-12, start at least at 7cm... 4cm is a butterfly kiss. If you do buy used replace the hose and clean the tub with white vinegar and a toothbrush. Also replace the filter. Masks are a very individual thing, if you're not an inveterate mouth-breather then I think your plan is good. Masks should not be bought used! They normally require a prescription but can be pieced together without.

Watch your data using Oscar or SleepHQ to get an idea of where the machine is taking you... after a few nights you should have an idea of your good base pressure. Good luck, and welcome to the hose.

I would start with minimum pressure 7.0, maximum 20.0.

I just got diagnosed as well. I purchased the ResMed AirSense 10 Auto-CPAP Machine Package with HumidAir Heated Humidifier (Card-to-Cloud). It was new $499 and there was a 20% coupon applied. I called a few places and Direct Home Medical really were helpful and patient with me. Easily on the phone for 40 minutes and very helpful.

The prescription was sent over to them and they managed the settings based off that. I tried the AirFit N30 Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear, F&P Evora Full Face CPAP Mask FitPack with Headgear, and Siesta Full Face CPAP Mask FitPack with Headgear. The full face I like the best.

I guess I have had this problem for 4-5 years. I started falling asleep at my desk at work sitting up constantly nodding out as well. Happened to mention to doctor last visit I hit a wall around 1:00 pm every day and can't lose weight. Got tested and ta da I got sleep apnea.

Been on the system for a week now and have not gotten up in the middle of the night sleep all through the night! I have not been tired any in the day. Doctor says it will get better then this. She said I adjusted fast, but will still get better. She says after some days she will look at reports and potentially make adjustments.
