Full beard and moustache -- Need non-leaking mask

Post by meister » Thu Mar 24, 2005 1:18 pm

MWM looking for M w/facial hair and apnea. Looking for a short-term
relationship in order to find a mask (possible tape combination) which works
well so that I don't need to lose my 30 year investment in my
face and start shaving everyday. Looking forward to a healthier, fun-filled,
long life and feel a non-leaking mask may just be the ticket.

If you guys start talking about hoses, I am outta here!

Seriously tho. The Ultra Mirage FF is the best out there from the general consensus. I am using one but I still have large leaks detected during the night. That is why I am going to try the Aura with a chinstrap and see if I can get that to work...

LOL I saw that RG replied in this thread and had a wild thought that she might be the bearded lady!

Have you tried any nasal pillows?

I have a 35 year investment in a full beard and I am not about to shave it off! I use the Resmed Ultra Mirage with no problems.

I'm about to get my first cpap machine with an ultra mirage full face mask and I also have a full beard. Usually I just let the barber trim it every four or five weeks when I get my hair cut and the beard can get kind of shaggy. How important is it to keep the beard at the same legnth? Should I get a beard trimmer?

I have my hair cut and beard trimmed every 3 or 4 months. Needless to say, most of the time I look like a shaggy dog! Fortunately, my dear wife likes shaggy dogs.

I have not found that a shaggy beard causes any leaks using the Resmed Ultra Mirage.

I have a full beard also. Looked like Osama till my brother in law came home from Iraq. Didn't shave for a year. The Ultra mirage nasal works fine.
Leaks average .4 normally.

Cheers,

Chris

Beard and mustache leaks

Post by eblack » Sat Mar 26, 2005 10:10 pm

I too have a full beard and mustache and I have never had a leak problem with the ResMed Activa mask. Typical mask leak is 0.12 L/m.
