As much as I think disabling the the Modem is silly and unnecessary, it should be pointed out:
- This is a fairly simple method of disabling the modem
It's not permanent and could be reversed with a dab of solder or electronic paint
- There is (an occasional) demand for disabling the modem on an Air11, and this is the best I've seen to date.
- Disabling the the modem on the Air10 was trivial and reversable.
- The OP has claimed it's "totally private from uploading my personal biometric data". So long as Bluetooth is available (and connected), then no, ResMed can still potentially and covertly upload your data.
Having said that, the OP is wrong about ResMed uploading data,
without consent. The documentation makes it clear that they upload the data, and how they use it. Choosing to use the device, knowing full well data is captured, is consentual.
The OP also has a problem with others implying he's "crazy" with the tinfoil hat references. But, he has no problems implying those who don't think like him are kissing the ring and curtsying to the government and big corp.
He also acknowledges that one of the roles of data is to improve performance. But then suggests, that's somehow inappropriate? Huh? So is your preference a poorer performing algorithm?
There is another reason that this procedure should not be done, or at least not without explicitly stating; this will prevent device updates.
ResMed has pushed a few firmware updates using the modem, including bugfixes and functionality improvements. Disable the modem and you've also potentially crippled your device from receiving bugfixes or enhancements.
Encouraging this hack, without also sharing some of the pitfalls, is negligent.
