CPAP Therapy Became Intolerable

Post by DoktorSpengler » Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:08 am

Hello,

I thought I was adjusting to my CPAP after 6 months, but after a couple weeks I regressed again.

For a period of time when it was working well, I seemed to have found a relaxing breathing pattern which felt like:
1.) CPAP pushes in a deep breath
2.) I exhale more gently than normal and do not fully exhale.
3.) CPAP pushes more air, but not as much as before
4.) Go back to 2.)

After a few breaths like this, I would relax and go to sleep. I think that as the nighttime temperature dropped and the humidity changed, I stopped being able to breathe like this. It feels like I'm fighting the machine. I don't know if I need to adjust the machine settings (EPAP, PS, etc.)

I have been checked out and I have good sinus/nasal airspace following a septoplasty and turbinate reduction. When I talked to a surgeon he said my next choke point (pun intended, I guess) in my breathing passages is related to my jaw s.t the most sensible route to further surgical improvement would be to move the jaw forward. I previously used a tempromandibular advancement device to advance the jaw, which was almost as good as CPAP on a good night, but the utility of it declined with time.

[Edit here is some OSCAR data of me sleeping. There is a good night and a bad night:

Do you see anything useful here? Is there anything I can do to get back on track?

I am a real mess right now. So I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

Sorry to hear you're encountering problems. People here will be able to help you if you can redo your charts.

Please include the left panel, with the pie chart and calendar turned off.

Please include all and only these graphs:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Flow limitations
Snores.

Let us know if you have trouble with this re-formatting.

Also, could you put information about your machine and mask in your signature block? That way it'll be there whenever people read your posts.

Hi, Thanks Emerita

Is this better? https://imgur.com/a/FZQUsW5

Snores are virtually nonexistent on all days.

What is the main issue? Feeling out of breath? Find out hard to exhale? Feel too much pressure going in? What's your main culprit?

Edit the subject line in your OP to say, "ASV Therapy Became Intolerable"

This will help catch the eye of ASV experts.

I second Chicago Granny's request. I'd like to help, but I don't know enough about ASV charts or the workings of the machines.
