ASV weird breathing.
ASV weird breathing.
Hi, all I was wondering some advice on my ASV. I’ve been having these weirdly breathing patterns. My sleep doctor and Apneaboard can’t figure it out. Here is a pic below…attached. My doctor put me on ASV because it helped my oxygen compared to ST with lung disease.

Re: ASV weird breathing.
Here is yesterdays. Above was todays.

Re: ASV weird breathing.
Arousal/awake breathing which can be very irregular when compared to asleep breathing.
Easily spotted on yesterday's report at around 7:55 and the very brief episode at 7:58.
Not so easily spotted due to scale on the other report but it's irregular as well but of longer duration.
Doesn't mean much except you weren't sound asleep. You may or may not remember being awake especially with those very short episodes.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Oh, so I was awake? How can you tell?

By the flow rate pattern of the breaths. Asleep breathing is regular and doesn't vary much and boring looking....now awake/arousal breathing is all over the place and not boring at all. Got you worried didn't it???

It's normal...not a big deal unless you are seeing a LOT of it and then it's a big deal but only because you aren't sleeping well. I see this sort of stuff fairly regularly because I already know I don't sleep so great but that's because I wake up and toss and turn due to back/pelvic pain. Sometimes I go right back to sleep and sometimes I don't.
I have this example....asleep breathing is circled in red...the stuff not circled is arousal/awake breathing.
Note the obvious difference in the pattern of each breath.

and this one below is the same example but not zoomed in so close.

Ah, so I may of woke up?
Re: ASV weird breathing.
Yep. You woke up. You may or may not remember it but you woke up.
It's normal to wake up a handful of times anyway. Did you know it is normal to wake up after the completion of a REM stage cycle? Normally we just roll over and go back to sleep and don't remember it but sometimes we do remember.
The longer we are awake the greater the chance that we will remember the arousal.

Re: ASV weird breathing.
Oh wow. I also thought I may of woken up from UARS nose arousals. I’m getting a septoplasty+adenoid removal / turbinate reduction. I’m hoping it helps sleep.

Re: ASV weird breathing.
Any thoughts? I notice the breathing which makes sense but my Respiratory Rate is absolutely insane. Im wondering if its the lung disease, or something else. Im not a doctor but a RR of 35 seems excessive.

Re: ASV weird breathing.
I don't see a RR of 35 on this report.
I see a max RR of 31.9 can't tell from this image when that occurred or how often you hit it but probably not often or prolonged.
and a 95% number of 25 (95% numbers just mean you were AT OR BELOW that number for 95% of the time)
and a median average of not quite 14 RR....which is entirely normal.
Respiration rates can change...maybe a good dream or a bad dream or something.
Doesn't mean anything bad is going on. Talk to your doctor about it if it bothers you too much.
