Cannot use APAP…woke me up several times a night in brief spurts. Once I fine turned my fixed pressure, it made all the difference. My OSA is mild and my pressure is 9.2. It has been perfect the last two years.
What was the deal breaker for you?
Interesting to hear different perspectives.

This is exactly why it is important to get an APAP, because they can go both ways;
Handy because you never know until you are actually using a machine.
If you get a straight pressure only machine---you are STUCK!!!
Too bad if it makes you miserable.
It is also harder to donate a straight cpap--nobody really wants them.

I use the apap setting. I have lowered the high-pressure setting to just a little above the highest I have ever gone, and have changed the pressures when I felt that I needed to. I like having a range of pressure, as my air needs change throughout the night. This has worked great for me.

CPAP, but it's an APAP machine.

The variable pressure was waking me up often. Although I felt good…the brief spurts of being woke up irritated me. I needed to find a solution.
I consulted with Jason, LankyLefty27 on YouTube in September 2021 who suggested fixed pressure. It took about 2 months of fussing around to find the correct pressure and EPR settings. I have not looked back and my Oscar charts look great too.

Using APAP. I'm new. It's working great. Sleep study said AHI was 21 in the test. I'm usually under 5 now and the last several days I've been under 1.
But I wonder how much impact mask choice has in the mix. Like I say, I'm new. But with my first mask, a Phillips full face that sat under my nose -- I can't remember the model -- I experienced a lot of big and disturbing pressure swings. With that experience as a baseline I could imagine wanting CPAP instead of APAP.
Now with the ResMed f30i I have relatively even and generally lower pressures. Adding the Pad a cheek cover to that cushion seems to have evened the pressure out even more and lowered it, while cutting number of events too.
So with the same machine at the same setting (5 to 20) it's been almost like two different machines altogether with the two actually pretty similar masks.

" . . . the same machine at the same setting (5 to 20) . . . "
5 to 20?
For me, a wide open range was only slightly less miserable than single pressure.
I reached nirvana only after tightening the range down to 9.2 to 13. (by my own tests)
I was initially titrated at 14 cm. [[[Stupid lab, doctor, DME--razzberries to them all!]]]
It was not pleasant at all. I would have quit cpap long ago, if I could not try APAP.

Yeah, they set it 5 to 20. I have a feeling the sleep doc is not very actively engaged in my local sleep center. Mostly busy NPs working, doc pops in for insurance purposes.
But it seems to be working just fine at this point. I don’t know if it will go wobbly again, but it feels just nice now and AHI is low.
If I look at the Oscar data over the 2 months I’ve had it, it has changed. I don’t know if my body is responding, or what. Everything has smoothed out, pressure is lower, my breathing is smoother, few OAs.

APAP here. I have to keep the initial pressure low to keep the aerophagia down.
