Newbie: more pressure?

Post by RickieVz » Sun Oct 15, 2023 3:36 pm

Hi guys,
On cpap for about a month and trying to get good breathing.
Currently on pressure 7 but ramps up from 6 within 5 minutes
AHI always about 0.2 and 0.7, using the Airsense 11. EPR is full time and at a 3.

Is my breathing pattern good or do I need more pressure? Thanks

How are you sleeping??? Soundly or fragmented?
How are you feeling in general?

Sorry about that. I was excited to find a Cpap board that I didn’t read the rules. My bad.

Feel good, sometimes still a bit sleepy after a good 7 hours of sleep.

Was able to control the leak due to me opening my mouth so I started experimenting with mouth taping and definitely see a difference.

Now in just trying to get the breathing a good level. Pressure at 7 and EPR full time at 3.

I’m told it’s better if the EPR was off but haven’t tried that yet.

Who told you that?
Probably the same person that told you that fixed pressures (like your 7 cm) are superior to auto adjusting pressures.
Wrong on both counts.

Yes, for some people it is better for EPR to be off but that's only when EPR is causing a problem. It doesn't always cause a problem and in some cases it fixes problems critical for therapy to be successful.
The blanket statement "EPR is bad" is a bad thing to be saying.

Having EPR turned off doesn't guarantee optimal therapy/treatment. It's not a magic button.

But you are free to try it. You may or may not like the change.

Impossible to offer any ideas based on the very limited data shown. Sorry.
Can't tell if anything needs to be fixed. Not enough information.

In general I tell newbies that they need to factor in (and it's a big factor) how they feel they are sleeping and how they are feeling in the day. If getting a nice low AHI and leaks aren't a problem and they are sleeping good and feeling good then if it ain't broke don't go trying to fix things.

As far as improving on your breathing and I am going to assume that you mean while you are asleep.....specifically what do you think you need to change?
