PSG Results question

Post by Meliodas99 » Fri Oct 13, 2023 12:58 pm

Hi

I got my PSG results few weeks ago and i got a 40 AHI score as opposed to my previous HST one which was 2-3. I had a very high ratio of hypopnea to apnea with hypopnea making up 80% of the AHI number which is uncommon afaik

I would like to know what are some possible of hypopnea dominance and if any of you had similar results? Someone got similar results to me, nothing abnormal beside a longue/enlarged tongue, i have a one too but so it might be a clue

Beside that there was nothing "abnormal" beside low REM sleep. slept/woke up 2 time, same as HST, no medication. I also have some allergies but i don't really sneeze/have a runny nose and taking medecine doesnt do anything even for a long period

Because OSA is more a matter of disturbed sleep than anything else, a hypopnea can be just as damaging to one's sleep as an apnea. Therefore, effectively stabilizing your airway with PAP therapy during sleep may do much good for your overall safety, health, and quality of life during the day. That AHI suggests it is well worth a trial of the therapy to find out.
While apneas are generally considered more severe than hypopneas, there is evidence that both carry similar risk factors for cardiovascular disease and other illnesses. Sleep experts note that there is currently no established clinical reason for differentiating between them.

The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

What caused you to seek a study in the first place?

What caused you to seek a study in the first place?
Being more tired the morning than at nighttime
Constantly yawning
Bruxism

I only became that way after i grew up into my puberty, before that i never had this making me constantly sleep-deprived. I thought it was some blood panel disorder as the HST was negative but nothing came up, so i got a PSG and it appears i have 40 AHI. hypopnea dominance might be the reason it werent detected in the HST?

I'm getting a new mask for the cpap as the old one leak too much, i will see if it improve my sleep

You can find videos on YouTube demonstrating how to fit and adjust most mask models. The videos can really help. For any mask, watch more than one to get more benefits.

What was the name of this HST? A PSG is more detailed in what it checks for and detects.

afaik hypops are more common. Don't forget that apneas start out as hypops.

Sleeping on your back almost always shows up with a lot more hypopneas than side sleeping does.

Just to keep things complicated: there are several different ways to score hypopneas, and the two tests may have used different scoring criteria.
