dreamway connector odor - SOLVED

Post by onward60 » Wed Oct 11, 2023 2:29 pm

Am I the only one who finds the dreamway connector really smelly? I have been practicing with just the dreamports stuck on my nose to get used to that. I didn't find them particularly bad smelling. But, I can't stand to breathe through the connector. I lasted about 3 seconds with it on and took it off. I've tried many other masks and found them a bit smelly but not unbearable. The dreamway is unbearable.

Nope....never happened to me....and I can't remember the last time I washed it.

Try washing/soaking in something that smells nice....or get a new connector. How old is the one you are using?

Like anything plastic you pull out of a box, it has that factory plastic smell. It goes away almost immediately, certainly after a night of using it. I guess if you're hyper-sensitive you can probably get it smell like Lysol or bleach or something else.

The things I stick on my nose are brand new also and don't smell so bad. :?

If it is brand new then all I can say is that this is the first I have heard of anyone complaining about any odors.
Maybe it needs to off gas a bit...
If it were me I would wash it and then soak it in something that smells good. I did this years ago with nasal pillows and I used J & J baby shampoo...then the nasal pillows smelled like a nice clean baby's butt.

Use anything that pleases you in terms of aroma.

Also the usual stuff.....make sure your machine's intake filter is clean and the long hose isn't part of the problem.

This is highly unusual....certainly not a common complaint.

Yeah. I hadn't even hooked it up to the machine. I was just trying to figure out how the thing attached to the nose ports. I stuck the nose things on and was clicking the connector off and on to try to see how hard it was to do it (pretty hard).

The nose ports themselves I can hardly notice the smell. The smell from the connector is so strong I can't imagine anything that could cover it up that I would be able to blow up my nose and still sleep. :(

You probably will find the newer version of the Bleep (the Eclipse) easier to attach.

https://bleepsleep.com/the-eclipse/

Contact Stuart and explain the problem and see what he says.
On the web page above look up in the right corner where it says "where to buy" ...see the little 3 lines???
Click your mouse on those little lines and the page will open with a list of other stuff....down at the bottom is the "contact us" link. Click on that to open an email you can send to Stuart.

Thanks for the link.

I was kind of going back and forth on which one to get and thought I'd try this one first because it was cheaper.

I discovered another thing. Back story: Before I bought the starter kit, I bought only a box of dreamports separately. They came in a branded, cardboard box. They were reasonably cheap. I wanted to see how my skin reacted to the adhesive. I also wanted to practice applying them. After I decided that the ports would work for me, I ordered the starter kit.

The starter kit came in a sealed, branded plastic bag with both a package of dreamports in a box (like the first) and the connector kit inside the bag. I just opened the dreamports that came with the starter kit. They reek to high heaven, too. The first box, the one that came separately, had no strong odor at all. The inside of the plastic bag also smells. The outside of the plastic bag does not smell. This makes me worry that it is, indeed, the connector kit that reeks. Reeks so bad it stunk up the dreamports, too.

I wonder if the starter kit box somehow got stuck in somewhere that it could acquire the unwanted odor?????

What does the odor smell like?

Where did you get the starter kit from?

Did the very first box of just the adhesive strips have any odor?

Contact Stuart....what you have experienced isn't normal at all.

Maybe something like that. Except the starter kit is not a box. It's a thick plastic bag with Bleep branding that contains the connector and a box of ports. I wonder if the odor is coming from the bag. This morning the connector and new ports are less smelly. The inside of the bag itself still reeks. However, I was not trying to air out the inside of the bag.

The first box of ports I got were not in a bag with other things, but just by themselves in a box. They were not smelly. They smelled kind of what you'd expect (adhesive, plastic) and not strong at all.

The only thing I can think the starter kit smells like is chemical, but nothing like I've ever smelled before.

I did email Stuart. I'm very glad to hear this is not normal because I really, really, really want this to work. I've had no success with any other mask due to neuropathic pain in my face.

My best guess is that the starter kit bag thing somehow got stored next to something stinky and the entire contents absorbed the odor.
Don't assume that just because it was still sealed and within that heavy plastic like bag that odors can't reach inside.
I had this happen myself a while ago with a sealed bag that came from a smoker's home....even the frame which was sealed inside that heavy bag reeked of the smoke smell.

Where did you get the starter kit bag thing from?

The smell is getting better. I have been practicing hooking the connector up. I cannot do it. :( Whenever I do the test exhale like it shows in the video, air leaks out. I test exhale the ports, too. The ports are fine. It's the connection I can't do. I have tried so many times.

Then something isn't connected either completely or correctly. I used the DreamPorts until the Eclipse was ready to Beta test and I have never gone back to the original version. It will NOT leak anywhere when correctly connected.

Get with Stuart about your problem connecting things. He can do a video chat with you and see if he can spot something.
He's done it for others.

And think about the Eclipse....it's so much easier to get a perfect connection without all the work.
I can get the Eclipse attached perfectly in less than 5 seconds. No struggle at all.
I apply the Halos (maybe takes a second) and then go to bed and attach the frame/hose in the dark....it never fails me.
