Yes, magnesium will crumble when cutting is attempted.
You can't make a blanket statement like that, since there are so many different formulations of magnesium.

I just cut a magnesium glycinate from 'natures branch' cleanly into two pieces.
I havent had a pill crumble on me like that, yet.
Just get the straight lines and jagged edges.

But even if you have jagged edges, if you take them with water, the edges become negligible.

For sleep, I used to take it after Dinner. That seemed to help me sleep better.

Tried Magnesium for a while taken a few hours before bedtime. For some reason while taking it I was getting up more frequently for bathroom trips. Stopped taking it and the bathroom trips went back to about one in the night.
