Mirage masks..........

Post by JohnD » Thu Feb 01, 2007 6:35 pm

Hi....am thinking of changing masks...I keep having leaks in my present one.

I was thinking about the Resmed Mirage Activa or the Ultra Mirage II......since I move around a lot during the night and am mostly a stomach sleeper...so the mask gets moved a lot. Any feedback would be great on both masks. Thanks!

Both of the ones you mentioned work well. If you're interested in nasal pillows then you'll find lots of nice stomach sleeping options.

Also, don't forget about the Soyala (which I'm starting to like better than my Activa even).

I found the Activa very comfortable, but the UM II more effective.

I can only tell you that the Activa worked much better for me than the comfortgel mask I tried first. The nice thing about the activa is that the entire interface acts like a gasket, not just around the immediate edges. Can't speak to the nasal pillows or other masks and I'm not a stomach sleeper . . . .

Like Sleepguy, I use the mirage activa. I love it. I first started out with a Comfort Gel, but after a couple of weeks wanted to try the Activa. I'm an extremely restless sleeper and always smash my face into my pillow. The activa allows you to move about and even "un-position" the mask without losing the suction of the interface. I have a really small face, and the activa is a big mask, but it works really well for me. Can you try different masks from your DME? My DME gives me 2 weeks with each mask to try them out.

I can only tell you the Soyala works better for me than both of those mentioned and it is more comfortable and much quieter.

It can however leave a red mark on your nose, so you have to make sure you adjust the forehead piece out to prevent that even flipping the forehead bar upside down if needed, once you do that it is fine, it has plenty of adjustments.

Rested Gal and I are both tried and true stomach sleepers, and both of us adore the Aura (now called the TwilightNP). The nasal pillows assembly is completely soft - there's nothing hard around your nose, so you can stomach sleep with no problem. Additionally, the exhaust vents up toward the headboard rather than straight across, so you won't hit your bed partner with it. It's an excellent interface, and one that I'd recommend over the Activa (which I've tried). For non-pillow nasal masks, the Activa is the best, but it's just not cut out for stomach sleeping like the Aura is. Good luck!
