AHI using CPAP

Post by TLD » Wed Jan 31, 2007 11:04 am

Hello All, new member here.

I received my machine (REMstarPro) and have used it for 6 nights now. I think its great that the unit can tell me my average AHI. However, I'm not thrilled with the numbers. After 3 nights, the average was 5.6. After five nights the average was 6.7. After six nights it has gone up to 7.9.

During my sleep study with no machine, my AHI was 14.9. So, I guess the machine is helping, but not much and to a lesser and lesser extent.

Can anyone tell me if this is typical?

Thank you,
Lee

Hi Lee,

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're off to a good start with your therapy. Seems like most folks here get their AHI down a little closer to 0 than you are experiencing, but not everyone. Mine seems to average around AHI = 3.

The only way to know for sure whether your AHI can go lower is to experiment with the settings a little. You'll usually want to average results over a few days to see what effect each adjustment makes.

Good luck with your therapy.

Regards,
Bill

You need to go to your profile and fill it out, also add a line with your settings.

If you use a Nasal Interface, you may be mouthbreathing. Mouthbreathing causes you to lose the need pressure to keep your airway open. Tapeing is the best way to correct that, other than using a FF Mask. Welcome! Jim

Hi Lee,

Bill & Jim have already given you good advice, I just wanted to encourage you. You're only a few days in to your cpap experience and like the rest of us, are impatient to get it all sorted out in the first week! It takes many people months to get it sorted out so relax, you're going well, and I'm sure your numbers will come down a bit, not that they're bad anyway.

Cheers

Peter
