EEG not enough sleep cycles

Post by koy » Sun Apr 09, 2023 5:21 pm

I purchased a Muse S EEG band to test at home, I'm not completing my sleep cycles as you can see the arousals.
I used to sleep with cpap device but was waking all the same, my AHI was always less than 0.5.
no PLMD either.

not sure what is the next step

The next step is to strap the CPAP back on

Or rather, it should be the FIRST thing!

Reading your previous threads I see you've self-diagnosed UARS and SDB - though the CPAP therapy charts posted on your previous threads show not such things.

My conclusion from both previuos and present info: Your sleep is fragmented.

Get thee to a sleep lab and an ENT. If they find a physical solution - or a medication that will improve your sleep continuity, fine.
If they don't then maybe cognitive behavioural therapy to deal with your sleep continuity problems would help.

I for one would certainly not be sleeping well if I were as worried as you about my sleep and my diagnosis.

Listen to ozij.

Like ozij, I've read through all your previous threads. You seem to be self-diagnosing. Quit self-diagnosing and get yourself to a real sleep lab to find out what's going on.

You may have OSA, and the CPAP is the only reason your treated AHI is less than 0.5. And when you sleep without the CPAP, the apneas come back and create the arousals.

You may have PLMD even though you deny it. And untreated PLMD can cause lots of arousals and fragment the sleep.

You may have a problem with plain old sleep continuity insomnia. And in that case you may need to commit the hard work of CBT-I because sleeping medication seldom helps with sleep continuity insomnia.

You may simply have some notions about what "good sleep" is that disagree with what your body wants or needs: Spending too much time in bed trying to get 8 straight hours of sleep often backfires when the body is just plain incapable of getting 8 hours of sleep without a single wake. And in this case, again you'll need to do some hard work with CBT-I to unlearn the unproductive behavior patterns.

You may have more than one condition that is fragmenting your sleep, and to fix your sleep you will have to address all the reasons it is fragmented.
