AAA Magazine article on dangerous driving habits

Post by mothra7 » Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:11 am

Our New York AAA affiliate just published an article on dangerous driving habits. A study done in the Washington DC area tracked 240 drivers for a year, using vehicles fitted with 5 digital cameras and a "black box". The study found that drowsiness contributed to many crashes, nearly tripling the odds of a crash.
Of course, all of you know what immediately crossed my mind!

I'm going to write a letter to the editor about the dangers of driving with untreated sleep apnea. Maybe it can make more people aware of the many serious effects of apnea.

Thank you for posting this.

Can you post a different link: or do a copy shortcut, just before you open the page you read.

The link does not work.

(To make it worse, I used a Canadain postal code, which got me to the Canadian CAA.)

I can do this, I will do this.

My disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, nor have I ever worked in the health care field Just my personal opinions.

Heck, I didn't even know I had sleep apnea until I went to my doctor after falling asleep while driving the car alone on the tollway! It was the sound of the outside mirror scraping on the concrete median barrier and the steering wheel jerking in my hands as the left front tire tried to climb the wall as my car careened down the highway at 70 mph that finally woke me up. The adrenalin rush I got from that experience kept me wide awake for the rest of the trip. But, filled with horror at what had happened, I called my doctor on Monday morning to make an appointment to find out what was wrong with me. And I know you are right. There are lots of us out there menacing the roadways.
