Slimline vs. standard tubing noise?

Post by Sleepy_Sam » Wed Feb 22, 2023 9:37 pm

As an old-school user of standard tubing, I decided to give slimline tubing a try to see if I could notice any difference. Although I couldn't feel any change in pressure, I did notice that my ResMed 10 machine seemed to be significantly louder when using the slimline tubing. Has anyone else experienced the same?

The machine has to work harder to achieve a specific pressure if the hose is smaller diameter.

Did you go into your settings and change from Standard tube to Slimline tube? It may not make any significand difference in the noise.

Funny you ask :-) I work with sound, and I am an electronic technician. I would ballpark it at about 5db louder on the slimline.

I only tried the settings that matched the tubing.
But it would be interesting to go back and do it mismatched and listen for differences.

Sound/noise is not much of a issue.
I remove my hearing aid at night, and mostly sleep on my good ear.
I slept through lightning striking a giant cottonwood tree in my yard.
I sleep in spite of multiple freight trains chugging by 1/2 block away.

That will make you think that the machine is broken, because the machine has to have a considerably higher pressure at the machine when using a slimline tube to get the desired pressure at the mask.

First time I used my 'new' machine, I forgot to change it from 'slimline' to 'standard' and I thought it was broken, the pressure was very noticeably higher.
