Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
Hello all,
Been using CPAP since the end or 2018. I got a Dreamstation 2 as a replacement during the recall. Smooth sailing so far. In general I’ve had an easy time of transitioning to CPAP life. I’m comfortable changing the min. and max air pressure on my own and due to my doctor’s office being a complete shitshow, I haven’t been to a year check-in since 2020. Only issue I ever have is aerophagia every once in awhile, and not a ton I can do about that.
Anyway, I noticed I had a message on my machine that the prescription updated and sure enough my max pressure went from 17cmH2O to 18cmH2O. That’s fine with me as I was thinking of changing it anyway. Lately my ahi has been a touch over 4 the past few weeks and my 90% pressure was at 17cmH2O so obviously I had some room to grow that.
Has anyone experienced their prescription updating automatically? Did the machine react to my 90% pressure being 17 and increase on its own? The display also no longer lists the AHI of that night’s session like it used to so I don’t know if it went through an update, but I can’t figure out how to get that back either.
Thanks for any insights and thoughts!

Your doctor or DME made the change. It does not happen on its own.

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
The DS2 did not automatically analyze your CPAP and adjust your settings, if that's what you're asking.
What has *likely* happened is your sleep doctor has changed your settings, probably based on looking at your therapy, and changed your prescription remotely.
BTW an AHI of about 4 isn't very optimum. You may want to download OSCAR, post some graphs and get input from some of the more experienced here.

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
Thanks. AHI under 5 is considered pretty normal. My AHI in my sleep study was 47, so I’ll take anything under 10 really. I definitely feel completely rested and have no problems during the course of my day. I’ll check oht OSCAR though. Couldn’t hurt.
What could really be changed anyway? The minimum and the maximum? I’ve put it at 20cmH2O and gotten more than 4 AHI before so not a ton to do.

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
Happened to me also and since I don’t have a DME and haven’t seen a Cpap Doctor since 2017 when I got a dateless prescription I’m assuming it was Philips. I received my DS2 a few months ago as a replacement for a basically new DS1. Bought the DS1 from Cpap.com. My replacement synced with DreamMapper when I first got it. I’ve since kicked up the Min pressure slightly and the other day got the message and it was set back. Airplane mode should solve that problem.

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
In the US, only a doctor can legally change your pressure prescription. It seems that the original poster's doctor did this. This means that this doctor was very attentive. However, (s)he should have notified the patient.
Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
I can’t believe a doctor I haven’t seen in 2.5 years would randomly do this. Very interesting.

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
This raises a couple of important points:
1. In Australia, remotely changing the prescription without informed consent would be illegal. Is that not the case in the US?
2. Is Philips adjusting pressures based on a prescription they may have on fie? As part of their super-smooth roll-out of replacement machines? Either way, see Point 1.

It's not known if the OP is in the U.S., and if so, then you need to know which state he is from.Respirator99 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 2:20 am1. In Australia, remotely changing the prescription without informed consent would be illegal. Is that not the case in the US?
That said, you have to find out what forms he already signed. Usually on initial visit one of forms signed is Consent To Treat, which is fairly all-encompassing.
You could argue the "Informed Consent - Right To Know/Refuse" clause, but IDK if that's worth starting a Depp-Heard Lawsuit over a 1.0 cmH2O CPAP change.
Why not just call the physician office and ask?

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
You're right, they'd probably call up and say you need another office visit.
Again, call up and see if they did it. If so, then ask if they sent in a bill to your insurer for a telehealth visit.

So why are you slumming over here? Did the novelty of paying those guys to help them make money for themselves wear off?

Re: Dreamstation 2 Updated Prescription?
It might be "illegal," but I can't see it being prosecuted as a crime, or even sanctioned by the medical licensing board (in any US state). That is, unless the patient experiences serios adverse effects.Respirator99 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 2:20 amThis raises a couple of important points:

. . .
However, it's certainly not best practice!
