Leak Rates for Ultra Mirage FF.

Post by skirk » Sun Jan 28, 2007 9:43 am

Hello,

Been lurking for a month, started cpap on the 9th, and have found this forum invaluable. I am using the EncorePro software and Encore Pro Analyzer. I had a couple questions about my leak rates.
I use an Ultra Mirage FF and my DME guy told me as long as I my leak rate on my lcd screen said the avg. was under 50 (mine says 46.5 for a 7 day avg. fwiw), then that was good. I checked the vent flow rate at a link I found here, http://www.internetage.com/cpapinfo/leak-rates-1.html and it said for a pressure of 11 that the vent flow was 35.

According to the detailed report in EncorePro my numbers are:
Avg Max Leak: 90
Avg 90% Leak: 59
Avg Leak: 50

When I look at the Leak Rate graph in Analyzer, it shows that my avg. leak is pretty steady around 50 while the 90% leak flucuates more from 50-70. I've had 6 large leaks since I started ranging from 4 - 52 min.

Last night, for example, my leak numbers in Analyzer were:
max: 120
90%: 67
avg: 47
LL: 27 min.

I guess my question is my leak rate ok? Too high? If not any suggestions to improve it with my setup?

Thanks a ton for all the info I have already gleened from these forums,
Steve

I think you were looking at the line above the UMFF. The approximate rate for the UMFF at 11 or 12 is about 39 to 40.....according to ResMad's vent flow rate chart that came with the mask. You should also have that chart as it would have come with your mask.

Lots of factors.....facial structure, proper mask sizing, facial hair, proper mask tension, tossing and turning in your sleep, removing skin oils before going to bed, etc., etc., etc.

When you get the Encore Pro software, it'll give you a better picture of what's going on......then you have to figure out "why".

Best wishes,

Thanks Wulfman. I did read the chart wrong and had the wrong vent flow data.

I understand that there are a myriad of factors which can cause leaks, I am just wondering if my leak numbers are anything to be concerned about for my particular setup.

I will dig out the paperwork from I received with the mask and see if I can locate the leak rates there.

Thanks again, Steve

No problem Shippy. I found it in these forurms after doing some searching. What are your leak numbers like?

I have the medium standard size UMFF I believe, this is what my DME brought me. I did use the sizing guide from the host site and had my wife measure me up and medium standard is what it came up with for that mask so I *think* I have the right size. I also wash my face nightly before bed to clear oils and I just received the large size papillow 4 nights ago which seems to help.

Thanks, Steve

Anyone else have any expericence they are willing to share with UMFF leak rates? I am trying to gauge whether my leak numbers are in the normal range.

Thanks, Steve

It depends on the pressure. Yours do seem a bit high.
