CPAP machine filter: Necessary or just another revenue stream?

Do you have a pet? That would require changing filters more often.

it was pointed out that yours is reusable so that takes away the revenue stream question. However, my insurance does cover a new filter every three months so it’s not costing me a great deal of money to replace.

You can buy a 50 pack for pretty cheap, though if you were one of those people that want to change it out more often because of pets or whatever.

You can get 60 filters for $10 USD on Amazon, that’s $0.16 USD per filter. If they sell a bunch they can get a coffee at *$…

Of course the copay is more than 100% of the online price.

A slight bit thinner than the ones from Resmed, but they get the job done. At $0.16 a piece you can replace them weekly if you want and not be wasting much money.

Changing your filters frequently (especially this often), will result in more particles getting into your device, not less.

I have two smokers in my house so I change them every time someone on here brings it up and I remember to check. They get brown and icky after a month or two. I would post a pic but unfortunately people haven't cleaned out their old photos and there is no room left. And I have no idea how to figure out how to post my images somewhere else and link them here.

FYI, iBreeze is made by ResVent, a Chinese company, whereas ResMed is made by an Australian company.

Who said anything about clogged fitters?

A *slightly* used filter, will have a *slightly* smaller average pore size rating, and therefore do a better job of filtering, *without* impairing its ability to draw fluid.

And even if the fluid were reduced (on the inlet side), this does not stress the blower. The result is less drag, and less stress. The higher pitch one hears is a faster spinning impeller, but not stress. The opposite is true, if a "clogged" filter exists on an outlet port. The added drag causes the blower to do more work, and that is tougher on the motor.

One of the problems with self-help forums is; bad ideas based on logical fallacies are often presented. Other novices can't always tell the difference between good ideas and harmful ones.

Your idea about not using a filter really was a silly idea and could result in others harming their devices. Pointing out the potential harmful consequences is not a symptom of being offended.

Passive aggressive behavior, such as offering an apology, while telling me to ignore you and this topic, is not a good look.

The filter is there to keep the inside of your machine from starting to look like this

I'm pretty sure the inside of my machine will never look like that since that's a picture from the inside of a computer case (probably one that's been running 24/7 for years with multiple case fans), not a CPAP machine.

If you think that the inside of CPAPs running 8 hours a day won't end up looking like that, then you're a fool.

Do what you want, it's starting to look like you're just here to argue a point to try and make yourself feel better, and I don't have tine to waste with that nonsense.

I think it's salient to point out that a computer case is very different from a respirator. I'm pretty sure that the air path within a CPAP machine does not flow over open circuit boards, capacitors, etc. Here's one being taken apart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRHwZFa6XI0
