Hello group, been a while.
Finally hit the 5 year mark on my Dreamstation ASV with 15,300 hours on it and since they have yet to replace it under warranty Medicare kicked me a new machine a Resmed ASV as my DME is not a huge DS fan at all. Anyway coming from one brand to another has been interesting as I’m struggling to get comfortable due to the machine differences.
Is there a Flex setting like Philips uses? Im finding it difficult to breathe against the machine, Flex on the DS was set at 2. I know ill get used to it on a few nights hopefully.
Is there a way short of disabling it totally to not have Ramp not restart every time? I got up to use the bathroom and resumed therapy and ramp started all over. DME recommended me keeping Ramp on a month or so till i adjust not only to my new prescription adjustment but the differences in the machine.
Is there a monitor mode? On the DS you could go into setup and bring up monitor mode that would keep the screen lit for 15 mins before fading out again. Machine seems to be far more sensitive and currently running at higher pressures when off Ramp than im used to. I am used to seeing 4/10 to 6/12 normally. On the Resmed ive clicked the screen on to see 8/15 and higher. Definitely a different algorithm.
One huge thing i am already liking is the Resmed being a fraction of size vs the DS. I have half my nightstand back. And not having to hold the power button a few seconds to shut it off os nice. App is definitely far more useful than Dreammapper.
Other than that I figured id pop by and say hi and those in the US Happy Thanksgiving.

No. Other Resmed models use EPR which is somewhat similar to Flex but the ASV doesn't. Instead it has an "EasyBreathe waveform" to give a more natural feeling. The key to comfort is to start out breathing slowly and evenly, letting the machine match itself to your breathing rhythm. It works best with ramp off.RestlessinWoolley wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 2:55 amIs there a Flex setting like Philips uses? Again, no. Ramp is either on or off. The best thing is to wean yourself off it as quickly as possible. Is there a way short of disabling it totally to not have Ramp not restart every time? The screen will go black automatically after a short period of time. You can press Home or the dial to turn it back on.Is there a monitor mode? On the DS you could go into setup and bring up monitor mode that would keep the screen lit for 15 mins before fading out again.
Yes, I used a Respironics ASV when I started out (2013) but could never get comfortable with it and could never get AHI below about 20. With the Resmed I'm much more comfortable and AHI is almost always under 2.0, often under 1.0.Machine seems to be far more sensitive and currently running at higher pressures when off Ramp than im used to. Are you referring to MyAir? If so, Dreammapper must be really bad!App is definitely far more useful than Dreammapper.

Re: Couple Questions on my new Airsense 10 ASV
Thanks. Machine definitely kicked my rear. But i only had a .7 AHI last night, which i rarely saw on my DS. Usually saw 1.5-3. Will take some adjusting to the different pressures. But i did turn ramp down to only 5 mins for now and will shut it off once it learns my EPAP baseline. Also turned climate off auto and put it in manual woke up with a dry mouth and i use a F30. Hardly used a 1/4 of a tank of water.
Will see where this goes. If it starts making me feel even better that will be a huge plus. With 15k hours on my DS it was definitely starting to show its age. Humidifier was a bit wonky and the blower was starting to make a whine noise. Best part is the Resmed does not seem to make any noise into my 80m ham radio when I’m scanning the band making contact notes to use my big radio on as i relax and try and get comfortable.

Interesting development. Apparently my Complex Central Apnea agrees with the Resmed more than the Respironics. In 4 nights my highest AHI has been a .7. I was always 1.2-4 on the Dreamstation. And ive been battling the end stages of RSV between the transition.

I have been on a Dreamstation ASV for almost 5 years and am thinking of moving to a Resmed Aircurve ASV within the next year if I can get one. What are the biggest differences when it comes to how they "feel" when trying to breathe naturally? I've heard the Resmed is more aggressive in treating events and am wondering if you find it to be disruptive?

Not "aggressive", rather responsive.icipher wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 8:38 amI have been on a Dreamstation ASV for almost 5 years and am thinking of moving to a Resmed Aircurve ASV within the next year if I can get one. While the Philips machines sit around with their proverbial thumb up their butts doing *nothing*, the Resmed's respond and attempt to make your breathing better.
The Resmeds are very natural feeling for breathing, (until you don't try to inhale, in which case, they do their job and force air into you).

Re: Couple Questions on my new AirCurve 10 ASV
Its been a bit of a curve (no pun intended). I miss the Flex setting but after a few nights i can breathe normally with it. My only issue so far is like what I expected when i first started was waking up full of air and passing gas and burping for a good hour. Im sure it will pass as well as i adjust. Its a different beast from the DS ASV. But cutting my AHI in half is huge. Ive never been below a 1 ever. Takes half the space on my nightstand as well. It’s definitely more responsive vs the DS as i can watch my PS jump all around keeping my breathing in check vs the DS. So after a week or so ill compare notes from my last Download from the DS and my first one with thr AirCurve on Oscar. Im definitely feeling more refreshed when i wake up.
My DS had 5 1/2 years of use and 15,200 hours on it when i packed it up. Be interesting to see how many hours the ResMed gets as it has the 1/2 hour cooldown that counts as blower runtime.
