CL2 mask exhaust ports annoying spouse - need a fix

Post by SC5592 » Wed Jan 24, 2007 10:18 pm

Greetings fellow 'pappers' & 'papper-ettes'

I use and love my ComfortLite 2 mask but my wife hates it. The exhaust ports blow air on her when I'm side sleeping facing her. She's not liking that air blowing on her all night which causes a grouchy wife come morning.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or has anyone developed a "fix" for this? I considered fabricating some type of diversion piece to adhere to the mask to divert the air up and away, but I don't have a clue how to do it.

With all the neat ideas Rested Gal has come up with maybe she has an idea for this?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about the CL2 mask, sorry, but I will tell you that the Aura vents up over your head instead of straight out towards your spouse. Of course the Aura (Invacare Twilight NP Aura) may not work for you, but it is my beloved mask.

I sleep alone so this post is based on pure ignorance. Could you switch sides of the bed?

I took a 1" piece of tubular gauze (walgreens brand $2.99 for 4 7/8" X 9" cots) and slid it onto the nasal pillow. It allows the air to flow thru but it seems to defuse the air a bit and make the mask somewhat quieter. I have no way to test if it will cause problems with co2 flush, but it is extremely thin and might be worth a try.

yea. I have the same problem with my ResMed Ultra Mirage FF mask. its exhaust port just shoots right out at the nasel and blows straight out. I'm a big side to side sleeper. I've been waking up with a pillow between our heads. I asked my wife was mmmmmmmmmmm.. Are you trying to tell me something???

Yep - try a pillow

I'm one of those wives who can't stand being breathed on. I can't imagine having the exhaust from a CPAP mask directed my way.

Switching sides of the bed isn't an option for us, so my initial course of action was to tap my husband until he turned over. I started feeling guilty about that, so I changed to putting a pillow between us. That always worked.

It's no longer an issue since I'm the one with the CPAP. Fortunately for me, not much phases him while he's sleeping

Hey, thanks everyone for the ideas and suggestions. I may try the gauze method - got nothing to loose I guess. Thanks BDP522 Brenda.

As for JUM001's idea of switching sides of the bed, well that's all fine and dandy until I roll to my other side and we're back to the same pickle.

If nothing else I will plop a big pillow between us. That should do wonders for our love life.

I use a Swift and the air annoys the heck out of my wife so we use a pillow too, not a big one but a lounge sized one, and it pretty much does the trick.

Good luck

Try an Aura. Really. No more exhaust going anywhere but out of the way.

As a CL2 user, I agree with Blarg...
