Ok…very longtime lurker here but do not post very often.
I have the ResMed AirSense 10 with about 19k hours on it. I have never had a problem with it until VERY recently. I have been working with a sleep technologist for the past 2 weeks. He has changed me to straight CPAP and not APAP. We have been moving my pressure upwards which started at 8. We are now at 13. Once i hit the 12 mark a noticeable change has happened. I hear high pitched sounds whether my ears are “opened” or “closed”. So I guess what I a msaying is I hear the same pitches even when I stick my fingers in my ears to close off all exterior sounds - inner ear. When inhaling the pitch raises about a minor 3rd from when I am exhaling — sorry…I am a musician…just the way I hear!
Is there anyone who can explain what is going on? It is VERY VERY difficult to fall asleep as well as get back to sleep hearing these sounds. And just and FYI…I do not use the humidifying chamber. I think tonight I will try my backup/travel S9 Autoset and see if I hear the same thing…maybe rule out the hose/P10 pillows.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Question regarding hearing different pitches
I wonder if it's a coincidence.
AS10 for me too.
I started hearing my breathing on inhale and exhale without making any pressure changes - turned out the blower was... pardon the pun... blown.
My machine was still under warranty, the said blown blower was replaced, and all is well.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Re: Question regarding hearing different pitches
The difference in pitch when inhaling or exhaling is likely related to one or both of the following:
Experiment with adjusting the pressure and EPR up or down slightly (without sacrificing therapy or comfort) to see if you can reduce the noise.
BtW at 19K hours you device is probably between 6 and 7 years old, starting to make noise. Time to consider getting a new one and relegate this one to a backup, while it's still working.
- EPR being on
The air/motor moving at different speeds during inhale and exhale

Uh oh
Why?
Sounds like your technologist is on a fishing expedition.

Re: Question regarding hearing different pitches
Update - I used my S9 Autoset last night…no sounds emitting…very quiet.
I will begin trying to possibly get a new machine as the AS10 is about 6+ years old.
Should be fun dealing with Optima - CareCentrix.

About as much "fun" as having your fingernails and toenails yanked out.

You have my sympathies and wishes for good luck.
