Oxygen Desaturation reaction time

Post by Tec5 » Tue Jul 12, 2022 9:41 pm

What is the latency (time period) between a apnea (central or obstructive) and a oxygen desaturation?
Is one 10 sec apnea sufficient to be reflected in a change in oxygen saturation?
If apneas need to be clustered to influence oxygen saturation, how many and how close together need they be to influence oxygen saturation?

That would be useful information. Perhaps some of the users that have incorporated Oximetry in their OSCAR data can advise on that.
Pernicious hypoxia is a great pathological danger, whereas hypopnea without an attendant desaturation is just a warning.

I went to a sleep cventer last week, but have been on CPAP for 12 years. Yhey let my O2 level go down to 66 before adding oxygen to my CPAP> I have read that any level below 79 can cause brain damage. Did they expose me to brain damage or what?

Off TOPIC, Were you on supplemental Oxygen before arriving at the sleep center? If so, and you provided that medical history, you probably should have been given supplemental O2.
Or was the purpose of the "testing" to see if you required supplemental O2?

Nonsense (Tec) - many of us go well below that on testing, etc. and don't end up on 02, not unless a lot else takes place over time as well.

I have been on supplemental 02, since March 2022. I need #3 setting 24/7. I guess my heart is giving out. They are still running tests.

'Bout 25 seconds.

For further information research "lung to finger circulation time" (LFCT).
Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.
Experience slips away.

Thanks, reading https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598- ... d%20light. now.
In this paper, interesting that the subjects were all patients with Heart Failure and it seems as if the motive was to find a simple by useful method to measure cardiac output.
While the timing in this paper (20 second "hold breath" to a Sp02 nadir), the actual magnitude of the desaturation (delta SpO2) is not clear , but the reaction time is pretty convincing.
