Contact lenses

Post by sleeplessinNH » Sun Jan 21, 2007 10:42 pm

Hi everyone, I'm contemplating getting some contact lenses (overnight ones) but because of the air that leaks from the tearducts, I'm wondering if this is a good idea. I am using a full face mask (Fisher and Paykel). I would love to hear from someone who wears the continuous wear contacts and how the CPAP affects the comfort of the lenses if at all?
Thanks

Why would you need overnight lenses, and are they really OK to wear? Worth it - with or without Cpap? Don't your eyes need a rest?

Overnight contacts are really the way to go for me. I don't like to have to clean them every single night. I guess everyone is different but I go for convenience. I know a lot of people who wear overnight lenses and love them...but I don't know anyone who uses a CPAP and wears contacts.

I don't wear my contacts overnight and I also absolutely hate cleaning mine. I also considered getting extended wear contacts so I didn't have to clean them every night.

I am very happy with my current setup, which you could consider if you are unable to tolerate wearing them overnight.

1. Disposable. I wear the Acuvue Oasys contacts - each pair for about 2 weeks. I always am a little happier on the night I get to throw a pair away (no cleaning!), but it's not as satisfying as it used to be because cleaning them is SO much easier (see #2).

2. Clear Care. This is by far and awy the greatest cleaning system ever. There is a little vial into which you put the Clear Care solution. You put your contacts into the little baskets attached to the lid. Give the baskets a rinse and put them in the vial. There's a chemical reaction that causes bubbles which clean the contacts. It is so much easier than traditional cleaning methods. And, it actually cleans them better.

I'm sure you know that 1-day contacts are also an option if extended wear won't work. I considered 1-day, but they're really expensive.
