CPAP machine gone

Post by KathyJL » Tue Jun 07, 2022 1:12 am

I’m very sad to report my Airsense 10 was left behind at the airport on Friday. I had hoped someone would turn it in, but no luck. :(
Using my old S9 (thank God I didn’t get rid of it)!!
So now what?…
Airsense11?
Another Airsense10 plus a travel size?
Stay with my S9 and get a travel size?
Ugh. This sucks.
Would love some thoughts and opinions.

Get an Airsense 10 (specify an autoset--either Him or Her)
Forget the travel machine; but always carry your machine on.
Never check it--and never let it out of your sight.
No US airline counts cpap as a piece of luggage--it's medical equipment.

Thanks for the advice, chunkyfrog! First time in 12 years (and tons of travel) this has happened to me. I was in charge of 14 pre-teens/teens going to a sport competition, so I was more distracted than usual. It was a carry-on, left behind under a chair, somewhat hidden from my sight.
Sounds like you recommend just getting another of what I used to have. 👍🏼 Curious…why no small travel machine?

For me I realize that to get the small travel size that we have to give up something.
Often it is silence and humidity that we give up. Most travel machines are noisier and adding moisture to the air isn't as easy.
Can you get by with minimal to none added moisture?

Pugsy,
Ah! Got it. I already do minimal humidification. The noise factor, though, might be a problem. Wonder if a local DME has a sample one I could listen to…
Thanks for the info!

If you have one of those carryon bags with wheels and a raised handle, the CPAP bags have a handy strap that will allow you to piggy back your CPAP bag on to the carryon handle so you can't lose track of it.

Should you decide to travel again not only is it a good idea to put a luggage tag on any carry-on items - with your cell # but also place a paper inside with the same info.

I like to use a piece of junk mail that has my name and address typed so it's legible then add my cell #.

I have to think that many times its TSA or other employees that picks these lost items up.

Sad to say, there are "pros", who hang out at airports to steal for a living.
Some are very talented. Watch out for them!
When 7 members of our family traveled to Europe together, we used a thin steel cable
and padlocks to keep all 21 pieces of luggage together when they were in our control.
The only mishap was when the airline had possession.

These days you need a boarding pass + ID - in-hand - to get past the TSA screening line.

You can't just go hang out at the airport terminal.

Don't assume it can not be done.
It happens all the time.
Airport security is not always designed with the passenger in mind.
