DREAMING!!

Post by Arizona-Willie » Thu Jan 18, 2007 4:02 pm

I haven't dreamed for years ( or at least I didn't remember dreaming in the morning ).

But, I would dream when I fell asleep in front of the computer during the day.

Even though I might only sleep for a few seconds to a minute or two, it seems I would have long involved dreams in a very brief time span.

I've been on CPAP since last June and still wasn't dreaming at night, but daytime naps were reduced greatly.

Suddenly the last 2 nights I've been dreaming! And waking up remembering that I dreamed.

I < hope > this is a good sign.

Lately, since Da Boss retired too, we have been sleeping later. Maybe that is the reason ... getting more sleep.

I had heard people began dreaming after starting therapy, but I'm surprised it took this long.

Hi Willie,

I had massive and vivid dreams straight up then they went away which I understand may be this REM bounce effect, and now I am dreaming but I seem to wake up after that sleep cycle has passed. I know I had a dream but can only vaguely remember it.

Peter:

I had the same experience: long vivid dreams at first and now more vague not-so-well-remembered dreams. What is the explanation for this? What is REM bounce effect?

About a week after I went on CPAP I went thru about a week of wild vivid dreams that I could remember in full detail then slowly went away over the next couple of weeks.

Re REM bounce

Hi Rooster,

I got the word wrong. I meant rebound.
If the total time spent in REM is decreased long enough and repeatedly over a substantial amount of nights a "REM rebound" will occur in response to removal of it's inhibitor.

Peter,

Thanks for the reference to the article. As indicated in the article I did notice my mood improved once the vivid dreams moderated.

So I am encouraged this Friday night that I am on the track to a good full life again!

I started CPAP in May 06 and I have been having some serious dreams of late. Stuff from my past, like incompleted job assignments that have resurfaced. Unpleasant experiences with bosses and co-workers. The silly part is I remember them vivdly. Maybe it's my conscience.

Bump for a very good thread. I don't have software or anything like that to tell me how my sleeping is really going. I find that the awareness that I have been dreaming is a pretty good indication that I am getting good sleep. After going years without dreams (good or bad) they are most certainly a welcome part of my sleep these days.

I just posted about this subject too! I have been on my CPAP machine for two weeks and have been dreaming almost every night. I only seem to remember bits and pieces, but before the CPAP I cannot remember dreaming at all. I think I am still in that transition phase and that may explain why I'm dreaming so often. Stay tuned....
