F30i mask rubbing skin off nostrils

Post by builttogrill » Tue Apr 12, 2022 11:23 am

My F30i mask is rubbing the skin off of my nostrils leaving painful scabs. I tried cutting a small piece of cotton tshirt but the mask seal was poor. I have also tried using a hole punch to make holes in a band aid which works but it a pain to make and is costly. My doctor suggested AYR cream but I already tried Aquaphor and making the skin moist only made the mask remove more skin from my nostrils. I spoke with ResMed and they had no suggestions other than to call my CPAP provider. The CPAP provider suggested posting on a CPAP forum so I am doing that in hopes of finding a solution. Thank you

AYR contains salt. It's great for the mucus membranes inside the nostrils. However, salt may irritate the skin.

I'm not familiar with Aquaphor, but the ingredient list shows an alcohol component. It's probably a very small amount of alcohol, but it might dry and irritate skin.

The standard product used by members here is Lansinoh Lanolin - https://www.amazon.com/Lansinoh-Lanolin ... B005MI648C It's 100% lanolin.

1. It's possible you have fit or adjustment issues. The mask should not be too tight or too loose. Find this model on youtube and carefully watch three or four videos on fitting and adjusting.

2. Pay attention to hose management. Your hose should be in such a position that it does not pull on the mask as you move in bed.

BTW, I've been using that model of mask for about 18 months without any problems with skin irritation.

Good luck!
