Airsense 10- made in 2014?

Post by ronragus » Sat Mar 19, 2022 11:18 pm

I came across a used Airsense 10 Autoset. Only 800 hours but based on the serial # it is made in 2014, is that of any concern? How could I tell whether its firmware is up to date? thanks

ResMed AirSense/Curve 10s are capable of OTA firmware updates, but it's just not routinely done. The only time I'm aware of an update is 2015 to address a bug with the ClimateLineAir.
From
https://www.rmdassets.com/airsolutions/ ... %20V15.pdf

if your humidifier firmware is SX556-0204 or later, you're likely ok.

Even if not updated, per the ResMed pdf, the functionality is not really affected.

Edit:corrected bad link and that the firmware version was for humidifier.

Nope!

You can't, but medical devices don't tend to have the "it compiled, ship it, we'll fix it later" mentality that tends to pervade everything these days that has something electronic in it. (at least they didn't back in 2014, whether the new 2022 models do or not remains to be seen.)

@palerider is correct. FDA-approved devices usually don't have the "fix it later" mentality. If there is a major issue that gets fixed with a firmware update, usually it will involve a recall. I've experienced this some at work in the emergency department where cardiac monitors, EKG machines, etc. need updating.

The only concern I would have with a 2014 model is if it uses 3G technology AND you require myAir use (or your physician/insurer requires ability to access remotely instead of reading the SD card for compliance data). For most people, this isn't an issue. I'm not sure when ResMed switched from 3G modems to 4G.

I would check whether a 2014 machine had a Response setting. I think that was added after the AutoSet was first released. (I prefer the Soft vs Standard Response setting.)

Do you know when that feature was rolled out?
And was it on the Autoset for Her?

Sorry, I don't know the date or firmware version number that included that feature.

I know mine was made in Singapore in 2019 by the 1st 4 dig's of SN: 2219.
I have it in Autoset for her mode. Maybe the "for her" already has smooth response.
Frog knows some, but not too much.

I think the Response setting is visible only if your AutoSet is in Auto mode, but not in For Her mode. That was what I saw on my AutoSet for Her machine.

Your 2014 device will *NOT* have the latest firmware, not since 2015 has there been an Over-The-Air update. But as a few have stated, I don't think it's an issue. I would have no problems using a low-hour 2014.

Somethings to be aware of:
  • It *may* have the humidifier bug - where the humidifier can become disabled because of static electricity. This is the firmware update that was released OTA that addresses it. If this device was in operation during the update period, it should have it. I believe the patched firmware is SX567-0302
  • You likely won't have Soft Response this was released in SX567-0305
  • You may have RERA detection, I'm not sure what firmware version it was released in, but know it wasn't in the early versions, but was in SX567-0306
  • You modem is probably a 2g-CDMA and therefore likely not supported, not much of a big deal given if it's 3g it already may be deprecated as well
