Motor life exceeded on a RedMed S9 Auto - Time for something new?

Post by tattooyu » Fri Mar 04, 2022 11:31 am

Greetings friends! LONG time no see!

I woke up this morning to a 0.2 AHI, feeling good. I disconnected my hose from the machine, and it gave me the message that the motor life had been exceeded and to contact the service provider. The service provider where I got this machine many moons ago no longer exists.

Digging through the menus, I see that I have 21903 hours on the machine. Has it been that long?

The machine itself appears to be working fine, but that error gave me pause that it might be time to get something new. The latest and greatest from ResMed seems to be the AirSense 11 AutoSet. Any thoughts or comments on that compared to my trusty S9? My insurance covers 90% of DME after my deductible ($500), so the monetary damage won't be too bad most likely.

Questions:
  • Can you check your numbers in the morning on screen like the S9?
  • Any improvements to therapy or noise levels (I didn't find the S9 to be loud at all)?
  • I haven't had a sleep study since first being diagnosed in 2009. Think it's time?
I've been a mostly "set it and forget it" user with 100% compliance, so I'm a little rusty at all this. Thanks in advance!

ADDENDUM

Below are my choices for DME providers. If any are 🚩🚩🚩 or πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘, please let me know!

I had a pretty strange experience with my provider last week. I'm due for a new machine based on insurance coverage although it's okay for another year or two on hours. I expected they'd want to sell a new machine, but they deferred. It was mentioned that their waiting list for an Airsense 11 was two months.

Get your doctor to write a prescription SPECIFYING the Airsense 11 Autoset.
Then check with your network suppliers on who WILL provide this cpap--and when.
Any suggestion of a substitution--head for the door.
FYI: Apria and Lincare have earned many black marks here.
Leave them for last, if at all.

I have a prescription on file at CPAP.com and was thinking of paying for it myself, and then submitting my receipts for reimbursement through my insurance, but I don't know if the 90% DME still applies in that scenario. I'll steer clear of Apria and Lincare for now. Thanks, CF!

Either way should be fine.
Especially because of your big deductible.
Note: you may not get reimbursement or credit for the deductible.
Ask first, so you won't be surprised.

I'm planning to call my insurance company soon. I wouldn't expect to get the deductible back, so that's fine. I just want the 90% of the balance covered. Thanks!

Keep in mind this will apply to your out-of-network deductible for most insurance providers.

My deductible is $8800 (familiy), so either way I'm paying out of pocket. I ended up going with easybreathe.com after CPAP.com upped their price shortly after introducing it on their website. You can get a prescription from easybreathe.com if you need it (it's an extra $100) or your physician should be able to provide it. Most are good for 99 months.

I find it interesting that the AirSense 10 has a direct battery operation and an optional DC power cable, but the newer AirSense 11 doesn't.

I think that is more because everything with the AirSense 11 is in short supply and not because they aren't going to offer a DC cable at some point later.
I think eventually the DC cable will be available for a separate purchase.
