secret comfortlite 2 lookalike

Post by Issac » Sat Oct 07, 2006 8:26 am

My wife called me from California last night where she went with her sister for a sleep exam. Her sister was asked to be in a little trial of a product that looks just like the comfortlite 2 with the interchangeable masks and the whole bit. She thought it was the comfortlite 3, but was told the device won't be out until early January because their waiting for FDA approval.
The funny thing is that she was chosen by her doctor because she wears the comfortlite 2 and was due for more testing because of her massive weight loss from stomach surgery. She said the mask is actually better than the comfortlite 2 in that the mask has a gell type liquid that goes around the nose perfectly with no leaking and the headgear was more comfortable. When I asked her who made it she clammed up but my wife said she saw a box that had some print on it and a sticker that said sencormedic or scoremedical or something.
Anyway, it's very top secret and she had to sign something about it.
oh well, such is life.
Respironics is about to be knocked off in a big way. Her doctor joked that Respironics spent over a fortune advertising a product that these people are leaching off of. The lab told my sister in law that once the device is approved, they will use it exclusively in their labs instead of the swift, ect, because it addresses so many issues. Her insurance is called Kiser or something. She said the Dr. told her their thinking of calling the 3 in one mask theTriangulum , but haven't named it yet. She also made me swear I would'nt tell a sole because she get's the device after approval....
How can I keep quiet about something like this. I can't help myself. Sorry if I ruined the surprise for anyone in January.

Maybe it said SensorMedics -- a subsidiary of ViaSYS.

that company makes some marble looking CPAPs in different colors and a CPAP that you can turn on and off with a wave of the hand.

Restedgal, that very well could be. The problem is that she couldn't tell for sure if the device came from that box. It may have not had a box for all she knows, but looking for clues, she saw that on a box somewhere in the facility.
Although her sister never fell asleep (they swear she did, probably to keep her from taking more time than they wanted)she loved the mask and got to try all three set ups that came with the mask. She'll get one for free for agreeing to try it and answer questions afterwards. the question part took only 15 minutes.
That'a all I know and I'm not likely to get more information once they see I've blabbed.

That would make a lot of sense. SensorMedics claims that they have improved on other issues involving Respironics products, such as runaway pressure . . .
Our research and experience allow us to differentiate between events that require treatment and natural changes that occur during REM, immediately after a change of body position, or when a patient is awake and breathing on the Delphinus CPAP unit. Other self-titrating devices try to adjust pressure during these normal occurrences and this can lead to higher pressures than necessary.
and the ever-present issue of power loss . . .
Another safety feature is the power failure alarm, which engages when power is lost, thus preventing unintentional CO2 rebreathing.
It stands to reason that they would target improvements to a popular Respironics mask as well.

Here's the link to the webpage for their APAP:

Of course, there's often a difference between what a company claims and the reality of the product. Might get interesting though if they begin marketing in the U.S., or through internet retailers.

Regards,
Bill

hmmm, is the gel like that used by sleepnet products (Mojo, IQ etc) maybe its theirs. Or, I remember reading on the aeiomed site that they had a new product all ready to market that would be distributed through Invacare, maybe its them. My dme after forgetting I exist for 8 months wants me to try the comfort light 2, but the gel sounds good to me (I am an IQ user), whats the headgear like? I LOVE a mystery.

Has anyone heard anything more about this secret new mask?

Respironics is about to be knocked off in a big way. Her doctor joked that Respironics spent over a fortune advertising a product that these people are leaching off of. The lab told my sister in law that once the device is approved, they will use it exclusively in their labs instead of the swift, ect, because it addresses so many issues. Her insurance is called Kiser or something. She said the Dr. told her their thinking of calling the 3 in one mask theTriangulum , but haven't named it yet. I saw something in Calif about 2 months ago. It's not Viasys, however.
