Attempted OSCAR install - malware detected

Post by sleepychar » Fri Nov 05, 2021 9:07 pm

I just attempted to install OSCAR on my computer. My malware/virus program detected "malware" and blocked the installation. Has this happened to anyone else?

What security program gave you the alert?

Where did you get the OSCAR download from?

Probably just your security program not knowing what OSCAR is. This happens sometimes with any program but it isn't common with OSCAR.
I have used AVG anti virus, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes.....security programs and none have ever flagged OSCAR.

This is the official website...it's safe to download from here.

Can you provide some more info:

Operating System: Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, 11 Apple? Linux ???

What "malware/virus program" are you using that detected "malware"

What version of OSCAR are you trying to install? 1.1, 1.2, 1.3?

WHERE did you download the OSCAR from?
* This is the internet - what I write will probably NOT come across as it would in person; where one can read a person's face.
My posts are sometimes tongue & cheek w/some snarky sarcasm mixed in.
I leave it up to you to figure it out!

It's a false alert, unless maybe if you got Oscar from somewhere other than the official spot (sleepfiles.com)

Have you read the Oscar installation instructions? This problem is covered in detail.
* Download Oscar
* Oscar help
* An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

First, thanks to everybody who responded.
I did not read (have not yet read) the Oscar install instructions( Duh...). I will do that next.
I downloaded Oscar from a link on this site, I think maybe from one of Pugsy's sticky notes..
The virus/malware program I am using is called EmsiSoft. It was highly recommended to me by a well-respected computer install shop here in Tucson that services many businesses.
My computer is running Windows 10.
I will now read the install instructions and I will post again to let everybody know if install was successful this time.
