Brain Fog after naps

Post by bronco.den » Wed Sep 29, 2021 10:14 am

Hello Experts,

Since last 1 week I have started getting brain fog whenever I take nap in the afternoon. My nap length are usually 30-60 mins. It happened earlier also but the fog used to go away after 1-2 hours. But now it persists until night. 2 days back I didn't take the nap and I was ok through out the day.
Is it because of Sleep Intertia? and why did it start all of a sudden? Please suggest.

Age: 38
Pressure: 11-14
AHI: ~1
No central apneas

Thank You.

Are you using your machine during naps?

Anything changed in your life? Medications for instance?

Personally I love a nap in the afternoon. I usually am sluggish when I first get up, then in within thirty minutes
I am good to go for the rest of the day.

Maybe some light exercise would help when you wake up?

Napping with your machine should not be causing any problem. Just the opposite.

Good luck.

I have started taking Vit D supplements again. It was 29 in my last blood work. Also, I am driving a lot since last 1 week so night time sleep is usually good (no wakeups).
I will try exercise after the naps.

Thank You.

From the Sleep Foundation:

Based on findings from various studies, around 10 minutes is considered the best nap duration. This length of time allows you to catch a quick rest without entering slow-wave sleep and feeling excessively groggy after waking.

One particular study evaluated subjects after they took five-, 10-, 20-, and 30-minute naps. Subjects who slept for 10 minutes reported the most improvements. They did not feel groggy or fatigued upon waking, and their overall cognitive performance after waking was strong. Moreover, they felt benefits from their nap for up to 155 minutes after waking. Those who slept for 20 to 30 minutes noted the same positive benefits from napping as those described above, but only after a 30 to 35 minute period of impaired alertness and performance. The five-minute nap did not produce many benefits for sleepers compared to those in the control group, who did not nap at all.
