Really tired in the morning...............

Post by REP » Fri Jan 12, 2007 4:59 pm

Hey gang I have been on Cpap since Dec 15th and I have spent a fair amount of time reading here. The only real issue that I have noticed is that in the mornings its really hard for me to wake up. Harder then even precpap days. My alarm goes off at 5:45 am and I am lucky to be out of bed by 6:15 I just keep snoozing. And on the weekends I seem to sleep late. Its not unusual for me to sleep to 9 or later. I am usually asleep somewhere between 9 and 1030pm pretty much always. All in all though I am feeling much better more energy I really feel like its helping. Any one else have this going on or any thoughts?

Dave

My guess is that you are just catching up on sleep considering that you were sleep deprived for years.

It's good you are finally getting some decent sleep and are feeling better.

What pressure are you using?

I am going through the same stage! Actually, I think I am just getting past that. I've started CPAP about a month before you and am starting to find it easier to wake up again.

I think that perhaps at least part of it is due to waking up from a deeper sleep.

Hang it there and it should pass!

Rep, how are you sleeping at night? Have you acclimated yourself to the machines and mask or do you think that you may still be having respiratory disturbances?

Sleepiness in the morning is not an indication that you are catching up on long term sleep deprivation. Just the opposite, it is telling you that you are not getting proper sleep yet.

I see that you do not have software. I just ordered the Encore Pro Software so I can monitor my progress or lack of progress and know what is happening to me at night.

The good thing is that you are staying with the program.

REP,

If you've been reading the forum for awhile, you probably know about the mouth-leaking issue with nasal-type masks......?
That's one way of not getting good therapy.

But, I agree with the others. There's a period we go through when GOOD sleep is almost like an addicting drug......just can't seem to get enough of it.
Sometimes I feel like I'm STILL going through that stage.

Best wishes,

Den

I feel like I am sleeping great most nights and my afternoon tiredness is pretty much gone. I have more energy. Like many have said its a gradual change and I feel like I agree with that. My machine has data that is downloadable that I take to the doc. and he downloads it. I did this 6 nights into journey and according to the doc my apneas were down to 3.7 on average. (I Had 18.7 during SS) So he was happy with that. And yes Den I have thought about mouth leaking. I "don't think" I do that. How would one know they are? I do get the feeling that my mouth fills with air that I almost like burp it out in the night. That seems to be happening less and less tho. And I do know that on several morning my lips are liked glued together. I usually don't have a dry mouth or a sore throat. Does anyone know is there software for my machine that I can buy and if there can someone direct me to the right place?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

You're right that dry mouth would be a clue. Mouth taping and using Polident adhesive strips are what many of the users (at least on this forum) of nasal masks use to keep their lips together.
Have you checked the settings in the machine? Particularly the one for the mask setting. It never hurts to verify some of these things.
And, YOU can also check the sleep statistics in your machine (if done before noon). You don't HAVE to take your card to the doctor. Those stats will show the leak data and your AHI.

Dave,

If you go to http://www.google.com.au/ , search 'pages from Australia', and plug in Autoscan Resmed, you will find some options. You're looking for Autoscan 5.7, and will also need a data card and card reader, assuming your machine has the card slot in the back. I puchased the card and reader from U.S. sources who still had some 'left over' from before the Great U.S. Software Ban. If you run a search for Autoscan in this forum, you may find suggestions for additional Australian sources.

I think there are still some recent posts/threads (in the last few days) that have a link to the site that sells it.

How do I do this? I didn't know I could do this. Is it listed in my manual or is this something that someone just discovered.
Thanks

I'm about two months into therapy and am experiencing the same difficulty gettting up. I sleep through my alarm and when I do wake up, I smell and snuggle back. I feel so much more energy - less depression, etc. I really believe I'm just making up sleep and that it's so much fun to sleep now that I subconsiously choose not to wake up when the alarm goes off. I really think it will go away - and its good to know someone else is going through this, too.

here's to full recovery with CPAP!!!

Hi Dave,

Two of the best Aussie sites are:

https://www.cpap.com.au/

http://www.cpapaustralia.com.au/shoppin ... chines.htm

Good luck
