the idea of a ffm seems just well awful
Now what reprobate taught you that??
Thinking about this it's probably having been assaulted from the back by a stranger and put into a 1/2 nelson and told don't say a f*ing word. I fought and got out. I hadn't given much thought as to why I had such a negative feeling about full masks but I'm pretty sure that's it. It was a long time ago

And thanks ChicagoGranny for putting instructions. I used to know but haven't been on a forum like this is a long time.

the next thing i use is jay's scunci rig, described here-

https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php? ... s#p1086296

if that second interests you, let me know. i've done some modification on the rig and it will take some typing to explain. i'm too lazy to do all that unless you will be willing to try it.
Zonker, I read the description which seems different from what I see in the picture. That person says they pull something down over their face and put holes for eyes and nose but the picture is from ears crossing the mouth only. I already use a knitted silk shirt to keep light out. I get hot when I sleep. My preferred sleeping temp is 55 degrees haha so I just wait for winter for that. But all those layers! But if it's jsut the mouth thing I could do that. Thanks!

This has worked for Me:

I use a regular headband (sweat terrycloth) around head/mouth.
This will help keep the cheeks from puffing out and restricts air flow out of mouth.(loss of therapy pressure)
I also use a cervical collar. (it has the added advantage of holding the headband in place)
For some reason this combination helps me minimize the palatal leakage also. I start the night out with it below mouth (on chin) and only move it up if I notice signs of mouth breathing.
I also use a 2" elastic band over the headband(with Velcro on the ends for adjustment). Very loose for comfort.

I have developed this combination over 1 1/2 years. Many prototypes. Reason? I wear a full beard and am not going to cut it off.

It is amazing what a determined person will do to make all this work. I marvel.

but, like you, a full face mask just didn't work for me. (i'm a full bearded fellah and will NOT shave it off!) so i use two main things to combat "chipmunk cheeks". one is a firm foam cervical collar. like this here on amazon-

https://www.amazon.com/Coreline-Cervica ... 299&sr=8-6
I just ordered this. I got the small thinking it needed to fit my narrow neck but it's to keep your mouth from opening. Hope it will be thick enough to do that. well cheap enough to get the other bigger one. Thanks!
sorry got one foot out the door. will talk about this and the scunci later.

i don't know what you're doing on the quote feature, but it's not coming back exactly right. you may be trying to edit it too much. as it is, it doesn't notify me that you've answered when i log in.

anyway, more later.

huh? that's not how i read it. it's over the mouth. here's my bright shiney mug in demonstration-

Image

i use two instead of one. one goes over me pointy head and around my mouth. the second one goes around the back of my neck and around my mouth.

i don't cut ear loops because, apparently, my head ain't shaped like jay's. or anybody else, i sometimes think.

wow, 55 is low to me. i sleep at 64 and this isn't hot at that temp.

let us know how it goes. i use a large because i want the collar support out further to better fit my jawline. but you gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

something i want to mention about this method. because the foam collar isn't rigid, it eventually breaks down. it's a gradual process. i find i can get about 3 months use before i have to replace.

but this collar and the scuncis really change my therapy for the better.
