Respironics Confusing names---UPDATED guide for Newbies
Re: Respironics Confusing names---UPDATED guide for Newbies
So, if I'm replacing an M-series Auto, what model should I demand?

I'd say either the Series 50 or the Series 60 System One APAP would be what you are looking for.LinkC wrote:So, if I'm replacing an M-series Auto, what model should I demand?
Choosing between them?
Series 60: Optional heated hose and the chance to pre-heat the humidifier.
Series 50: A bit cheaper because it's now been replaced by the Series 60 machines.
Other than that, there's not that much difference since SH is now compatible with the Series 60. So pick your poison: Is saving a few $$ more or less important than having a humidifier that can be preheated and the chance to get a heated hose?

---and if any model actually has the name spelled "remaster", it is probably a counterfeit.

"The problem, of course, is that Respironics has christened every one of their CPAP machines with the name REMStar since way back when in the dark ages of CPAP. And it doesn't help that the current machines doesn't actually have its full name on the CPAP machine itself---the "System One" part of the name is only on the humidifier for some reason."
My machine(s) say "System One BiPap Auto BiFlex" on the top, and on the bottom the verbiage is "BiPap Auto, DOM/Ref 760P". But what's confusing to me is that nowhere on my machine does it mention "RemStar" but I keep hearing this and it's the only option for displaying my equipment.
Can anyone enlighten me?

the new Series 60 machines do indeed have "System One" on the blower unit, but the older Series 50 machines do not:
Here's a close up of the blower unit of the NEW Series 60 System One Pro:

You can see the System One in the bottom left corner of the machine.
Here's a close up of the blower unit of the OLD Series 50 System One Pro:

You'll notice that the words "System One" don't appear anywhere on the blower unit of the Series 50 machines.

I note you're missing the 950 and 960 "BiPAP AutoSV Advanced".
Unlike the other 60 series, the 960 isn't supported by Sleepyhead (or Encore Pro 2.11). Like the other 60 series, it adds support for the heated tube humidifier.

Thanks for the info. I've updated the initial entry in this thread to reflect this info and the fact that SH 0.9.3 does not (yet) work with the 960s.

Re: Respironics Confusing names---UPDATED guide for Newbies
Although it probably doesn't matter after all these years, my 50 Series has "SYSTEM ONE" on the blower at the same location where it appears on the 60 Series.
The model number is 950P. The tag actually reads, "DOM REF 950P". It is date stamped "20121212" (December 12, 2012). The user manual is "REF 1071073" and dated 12/20/2010. The user manual identity includes "EN-DOM" which may or may not mean, "ENglish version for the DOMestic market".
Above the LCD screen it reads,
" Philips
Respironics"
(words stacked vertically and divided with a wavy line).
Below the LCD screen it reads, "BiPAP AutoSV Advanced".
There is no mention of REMstar anywhere on the blower.
It has the 4-pin connector for a humidifier, not the 6-pin connector that was introduced with the 60 Series to support a heated hose.
I can only guess that there were two generations of the 950. The first had model number DS 950, didn't have "SYSTEM ONE" on the blower, and read "REMstar BiPAP AutoSV Advanced" below the LCD display. The second generation (again, all of this paragraph is a guess) came along when Philips was retiring the REMstar brand, promoting the System One brand, and introducing the System One 60 Series.
