anti-histamine pills?
anti-histamine pills?
One of my nostrils (always the same side) has been consistently stuffy every night, but was fine during the day time. No amount of saline, nasal spray could clear up that nostril. I am now trying off the shelf anti-histamine pill , but can they be continuously used? Would its effect diminish upon continuous use? thanks

Are you sleeping on the side where this nostril is located? If so, that is normal.
Not a good idea. Try a product equivalent to Nasacort (triamcinolone acetonide) or Flonase (fluticasone propionate). At least in the US, there are generics available.
BTW, have you tried adjusting your CPAP humidifier to varying settings? Some people get congestion at high levels, some at low levels. Trial and error for each individual. Although, usually when the humidifier setting causes nasal congestion, it's both nostrils.

Granny has a good point--it may not be allergies, since it is on one side only.
See an ENT--get a diagnosis, and proper treatment.
The wrong treatment could be harmful.

They keep you awake so you might need to add melatonin if you take them.

I use Zyrtec during the Spring and Summer months, almost every day. I don't have a problem doing that and haven't noticed a diminishing effect at all. I think you have an allergy issue. However, I'm not a doctor and an appointment might be a good idea. I also use Flonase (not over the counter) and it helps greatly.ronragus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 4:22 pmOne of my nostrils (always the same side) has been consistently stuffy every night, but was fine during the day time. Also, one size doesn't fit all... I use Flonase at night and it doesn't keep me awake.

Re: anti-histamine pills?
Loratadine does not affect my sleep, and I have taken it for many years.
I do have allergies, and in spite of the loratadine, one side often clogs up.
When it does, I roll to the other side, and gravity moves the lil' bugger, hopefully out.

I use Loratadine (Claritin 24 hr) also. Started using it for bone pain during chemo. Keeps me clear through the night.
