How fully can you erase personal data from a PR System One machine's memory? Rx history?

Post by 4betterO2 » Mon Jun 28, 2021 7:34 pm

I let someone else use my old PR System One BiPap ASV machine, including changing its settings, while using my new Dreamstation, but now I'm concerned about removing all user data from the old machine. My DME is adamant that patients must not change their Rx by themselves, (threatening loss of insurance coverage, repossession of the machine, and obligation to get a new sleep study to get it back!). But the Rx on my old machine has now gotten changed a number of times by the borrower. If I should need to send my new machine for repair, and I'd reuse the old machine for a while, then, as the modem no longer can transmit on this old machine, the DME could request to read its SD card to check on machine use, as I'm still under compliance surveillance with my new machine, being under rental mode.

How fully can you erase personal data from a PR System One BiPap ASV machine's memory? How much of the patient data is stored in the machine's memory itself, (not just on the SD card)? Is the Rx changes history saved in the machine's memory, and can it be erased? Hoping someone has tried and can tell me; I expect the process may be the same also for PR System One BiPap and straight CPAP machines too, so if you have tried user data removal (especially, Rx?) on these, please chime in, thanks!

Not sure exactly how much is saved on the machine itself...depends on how old it is but you can totally erase everything off the machine by doing a data erasure and it's a feature offered on all Respironics machines in the clinical setup menu area.
SD cards can easily be erased manually but don't put them back into the machine until you erase the data from the machine.

You can't pick and choose though...the erase prior data from the machine is one option only...erase it all or not.
Directions are in the clinical setup manual.

Your DME is full of it!

More than full of it. Probably also told him about the Medicare and Medicare Advantage requirements he mentioned in another thread which was total bullshit.

Some people just don't understand that just because a DME tells someone something that it is correct or the truth.
That's why DMEs get away with crap like this.

I would be finding a new DME that didn't lie to me at every chance they got.

No, I did not forget the "sh",
(but I left it off out of respect for those who are easily shocked.)

So, I have this friend and I put your question to her...

Here's her recommendation...

She says that not even the FBI can find out your old data! :P

It's an OLD MACHINE.
You don't even use it any more--true?
Nobody cares about what happens to the old machine--
Unless it's not paid for.
In which case, you can forget about converting it into a bong.
