Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Kind of like the reaction to using petroleum jelly for nasal issues . . .
From Wikipedia:
"There is one case report published in 1994 indicating petroleum jelly should not be applied to the inside of the nose due to the risk of lipid pneumonia, but this was only ever reported in one patient . . . However, petroleum jelly is used extensively by otolaryngologists—ear, nose, and throat surgeons—for nasal moisture and epistaxis treatment, and to combat nasal crusting. Large studies have found petroleum jelly applied to the nose for short durations to have no significant side effects."
To repeat a previous point: there is no recall until there is a free solution offered.
Warnings without return/repair arrangements may be taken with a grain of salt.

CEOs do not make statements like that to increase new machine sales.CEO Frans van Houten said Philips is the largest maker of such machines, and between three and four million affected sleep apnea machines and ventilators would be recalled.
"We're going to put all our capacity to focus entirely on replacing and repairing these units," he said in a call. He said the process would likely take a year.
That "has a consequence that we will not be able to serve new customers, so there's going to be a shortage in the field."

So yes, the very definition of Alarmist. To date, Philips has not received reports of patient impact or serious harm as a result of this issue.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
I'm pretty sure the people of Flint Michigan are still wondering about the alarmist bells the governor knew about when lead was abundantly flowing through the water system. The recall isn't what's alarming, that's just what you see above the waterline. It's what's below the waterline of the iceberg we aren't ever going to know about that's scary. No different than car companies covering up deaths that are related to defective parts. So you can think I'm an alarmist all you want. As though companies don’t bury reports when billions of dollars are on the line. As if no one with a double tap to the head hasn’t been ruled a suicide before. As if I give two cents what you or Webster’s dictionary have to say. I'd rather people know about it, read for themselves and make their own judgment call about how alarming it is for them. While you're doing that, know that Philips bought up 2M shares of it's own stock in May. If you don't think they didn't know they were going to sh!t the bed, then it's time to understand the nature of big company greed. Did they announce the recall in May? NO. You think they just found out about it? NO. You think they have known the results of this information through months of testing or possibly a years worth of testing? YES. Was this planned and orchestrated? YES. Did they do anything until NOW? NO. I’ve been using a Philips System One for years and I’m pissed over how it’s been handled, because they had to have known more than they did, and did nothing about it while they were buying up their damn stock.

Independent of CPAP machines, you are literally surrounded by polyurethane foam every minute of the day. There was over 2.3 billion pounds produced in NAFTA countries in 2018.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Philips KNOWS that this is a risk. That they don't KNOW OF any instances doesn't mean it hasn't happened. These are forcing air into your lungs 6-8+ hours per day. The material degrades. They are spending hundreds of millions of dollars recalling these. That's enough for me to know this is a legitimate problem.

Last I looked, I don't have a hole in my mattress that filters product directly into my lungs.
Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Depends on the chemical makeup of the particular foam used in their machines.
Different applications, make for different foam characteristics? (or vice versa)
I do not know.
I just ask.

Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Yep...this mirrors my thinking. Phillips isn't doing this out of the goodness of their heart...they are doing it to cover their asses from something that has scared the hell out of them....something that likely could cost them LOTS of money in the future and much more than the cost of this recall thing.biztraveler wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:57 amThe absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Re: Philips Recalls Everything
Yeah, everyone that has used their machines(since forever) and are diagnosed with cancer (any) will be suing.
If I owned their stock I would be unloading.
