What happened to Respironics Softcap?

Post by tonycog » Sat Jun 12, 2021 11:14 pm

The blue mesh softcap has been a life saver for me. It is by far the best fitting headgear for me. I looked tonight to order a couple for and it appears nobody carries it. Has it been discontinued? If so, I’m nervous as I’ll have to figure out a new Plan B. If it’s gone, do you know of a different option?

Thanks!

Did Cpap.com say (on the phone) that it's no longer available?

I haven’t called them yet, but I will. I started looking last night. The link I posted says it’s not available. It’s not available anywhere I have searched online so far.

Thanks,
Tony

You might want to ask Secondwindcpap.com whether they have any... you never know!

I suspect Respironics has quit production of that item if you can't find it anywhere on the internet as showing in stock inventory.
It was in production for a long time but maybe not enough people felt like you did about it. It wasn't a new product back in 2009 when I started cpap. It happens....low sellers get cut from production.
I haven't ever seen anything else that looks like it does what the softcap did. Sorry.

Time to enlist a local sewer (sewist?) to fabricate one.
Possible sources might be clubs who sew or quilt for charities/hospitals
These talented angels make clothes for preemies and burial gowns for stillborns;
Some even make chemo caps for those who cannot afford the commercial ones.

How does this work -- do you "plug" the cushion into the softcap somehow?

Will it help cure leaks?

Thanks for the input.

It's just a different style of headgear. For me, the cap wraps around my head completely and is much more comfortable than other gear. It lasts a lot longer than other pieces of headgear.

This place say's it's in stock https://www.comfortmedicalstore.com/pro ... p-headgear
That website won't allow me to actually place an order. I found a different site that works the same way. I gave my info to both sites and will now need to wait for them to contact me about a purchase. I'm now waiting.

Thank you for digging for me!

As I remember, the Softcap can replace the headgear for
most full face and nasal cushion masks.
A possible substitute might be a beanie or baseball cap
with straps sewn on where needed.
I have looked at biker bandannas with the same thought.

@ Squid - thanks for posting the link to lasvegasmedical. The picture shows how it works -- and a picture is worth 1,000 words.

Random unrelated info. In 1969 I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS (the armpit of the south), from whence I went to Pensacola to visit the Best Man from our 1968 wedding, who was a naval aviator in training at NAS Pensacola. When I tried to make a 3-point U-Turn while on base, I immediately sunk up to my rear axle in the sand which was the consistency of talcum powder in which I couldn't get any traction. Imagine my embarrassment when the hook showed up to get me back on the road, with all the Navy guys heckling the USAF softie with California license plates. Seems like 52 years has passed in a heartbeat. Anchors Aweigh!
