Can’t use CPAP since Afib. Help!
Can’t use CPAP since Afib. Help!
I’ve been using Cpap for 20 years with moderate success. If I was able to get 4 hours in a night with Cpap it made a difference. 2 months ago I woke up hyperventilating in the middle of the night. It was terrifying. After a few hours I settled down. Then last month I was in the hospital with atrial flutter and PVCs. Now whenever I try to use my Cpap I wake up feeling like I’m about to hyperventilate. I tried manually lowering the pressure on my DreamStation but had the same problem. I feel like this could be related to my flutter. I have a new sleep study later this month but was wondering if anyone can relate.

I can't give you much help on your cpap issue but, if you are new to the afib/flutter world, I can speak to that. Find yourself an Electrophysiologist! Do it now! New information on the streets says that, what you have, will become heart failure. I was diagnosed 21 months ago. Just had catheter ablation done on May 27. I feel like the clock has been turned back 15 years and I've been given a second chance at life.

My wife has afib and pvc's and her heart doc told her to take Magnesium Oxide 400MG for the pvc's and it really did the job for her , the pvc's. It bothers her ever now and then but not like it use to.

Squid's advice is good - nothing to lose by trying, though do run it by the MD first to be sure.

What they said--keep your cardio in the loop; and ask about a referral to the "heart electrician".

That’s good to hear. My EP doesn’t think my flutter or PVC’s are bad enough to get an ablation. In the meantime I can’t have caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, pizza. I may get a second opinion.Deplorable wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 7:18 amI can't give you much help on your cpap issue but, if you are new to the afib/flutter world, I can speak to that. So interesting about the magnesium. I’m taking Magnesium Taurate. Not sure if it’s helping. Maybe I’ll try oxide.

This could have been a heart issue. But, it is also symptomatic of sleep apnea. You don't mention what your AHI or leak level was that night. Are you checking these statistics on your machine display each morning? Are you sure your CPAP therapy is optimized? If not, post again in this thread and get help.
This sounds like what is sometimes called dial wingin' - just changing settings to see if it helps. It's advised to let the data guide changes. Forum members can help you with this.
I would get an opinion from my cardio doc. This study, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6435948/ , found that magnesium taurate yields good results. One of the well-known doctors that I follow recommends magnesium taurate.
If you find a doctor that recommends consuming caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and pizza, please send me his phone number and address.
