Slept GREAT for 10 years on CPAP... Now its terrible. Why???

Post by Kapitan » Wed May 26, 2021 2:01 pm

((I Have a Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset with Swift Fx nasal pillows. My normal comfort zone setting is about 12-14. My EPR is on full time at 3.))

So, for a long time I having a great sleep. The past 2 months though have been just horrible... for a reason I cannot think of.... Perhaps a bit of weight gain but not significant.

I started to wake up middle of the night due to my heart beating fast. Not gasping for breath. I adjusted the pressure upwards over a few weeks until it was at 20 and still having this issue once or twice a night... ALWAYS in the middle of a dream/REM sleep.

My Resmed has 23,000 hours on it so figured it was about time to change it out anyways, so bought another (11 not coming out til July-Sept I’ve heard). I also bought a full face mask which I’ve not quite warmed up to yet... but has potential. Bought a new pillow for sleep position too.

It has better pressure but still not getting me thru a full nights sleep.... had same wake up with fast heart beat.

Questions:
* Is central apnea a possibility here.... is it possible no air is moving in or out of my lungs as the pressures are too equal causing my heart to get it all going again? And would reducing my pressure below the 12-14 I normally use be an idea? Yes, I know I can simply try it, but would like to hear any other experiences like mine from all of you!

Thanks!

Pat

If you were experiencing Centrals, they would show up as events.

You haven't even mentioned your AHI, or if it's changed. Download OSCAR, and post some graphs.

If you've been sleeping well with CPAP for 10 years, and now you're not. There's a pretty good chance that whatever is causing your sleep maintenance issues is not CPAP or Sleep Apnea related.

*My AHI’s historically have been less than 1 with 1.6 being the highest in several years.

*Still use the NEW CPAP I just bought!

*Saw Dr. last week about heart beat. Took ECG... All Normal.

*I do have OSCAR But after numerous attempts to download data onto it, it shows as “no data” even though it goes thru the machinations of looking as if its downloading... taking about 2-3 minutes to do so... then Nothing!
