How do I keep my mask down?

Post by Mskitty76 » Mon May 17, 2021 11:28 pm

It's been a while since I've been on. I think i FINALLY figured out my problem with my masks (regardless of style). They slide up my face in the night. I prefer a nasal mask (the one that goes over your nose, not in your nostrils). Sweetheart got a new mask, so I switched back to those from a full face (which I hate). With both of them, I start off pulling them as far down as I can to be comfortable. They end up pressing HARD into the bridge between my eyebrows. That wasn't TOO bad with the full face, but with the nasal, it blocks my nose. Is there a keyword I can use to look up a strap that'll go under my chin to keep my mask down low on my face where I want it? Help me! Please?

Why not make one that fits you perfectly, maybe using Velcro to attach side points? Can you use a 1" square of ? 1/2" thick foam pad on your nasal bridge?

Since you prefer nasal masks, have you considered the Bleep? It does not go IN your nostrils, but sticks onto the outside with adhesive. Since it sticks on, it stays in place all night long! Works great...it's been the best mask for me. I tried about 15 (I think) my first year on CPAP before it came out and nothing but the Bleep in the 2+ years since. That is how well it's working for me! Of course, YMMV. For what it's worth, the Wisp is the only mask I could not even make it through the night with  Just goes to show how individual masks are.

Sounds like a problem with fitting and/or adjusting.

Go to youtube. Search for fitting and adjusting videos on the model of mask you use. Watch four or five videos. Some of the videos are quite good.

I strongly recommend also the bleep mask. No headgear and no need for adjusting the mask during the night. It stays on really well and no leaks to worry about.

Thank you for all the input. I'll look into the videos, and see what I've been doing wrong. I'm also going to see what I can come up with for a chinstrap of sorts, even if it's a ribbon tied under my chin. Lol. I'll even study of the bleep. I'm not 100% sure about it, because I have a very poly face, and am prone to breakouts and contact dermatitis, so the adhesive concerns me on it.

I have sensitive skin, even have trouble with bandaids. I have to have regular blood draws and bloodletting and at one point the lab did not use Coban and I had to argue with them against bandaids. But I don't have any issues with the Bleep. Stuart, Bleep's CEO, or Pugsy might be able to send you some adhesive to test, if you want to try that. Failing that, I have TONS of extra from the ends I cut off every night. Just PM me if you are interested.
