Airsense 10 Switcheroo?

Post by Ted Cpap » Tue May 18, 2021 1:09 pm

Hello,
After a trial with an Airsense 10 Autopap I decided to buy it. Have an appointment next week to sign paperwork and pay for my portion the machine cost. I was told that I didn't qualify for the Airsense 10 and to bring it in and they're giving me an Airsense 10 For Her.
Apparently it's the same machine as what I'm currently using aside from cosmetic differences. They explained that due to an ohip loophole (I'm in Canada) they will approve this machine. Sounds kooky to me but I'm good with it.

When I took possession of the trial machine, I was told that would be the machine I'd purchase if I decided to pursue therapy. (It was a new, unused machine)

Has anything like this happened to others here? Is this normal?

Thanks for reading✌
Ted

There is nothing underhanded going on here.

In fact, your DME appears more honest than most. Many steer the client away from the AutoSet for Her, towards a more inexpensive model. There's less markup that way.

I had to insist on getting the AutoSet for Her. My DME was pushing the Elite model.

  • In Ontario, there are guidelines one has to meet to be prescribed an APAP machine under the OHIP Assistive Device Program (ADP)
  • The ADP program does keep a list of eligible qualifying devices: https://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/pro ... manual.pdf
  • The OHIP "loophole" is true. The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her is an APAP device, but for some unknown reason, is considered an eligible CPAP device.
You definitely want to get the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her. It is far superior to all the machines eligible in both the CPAP and APAP categories. It's a great device, probably the most highly recommended device on the forums.

Thanks! Just wanted to see if I was being hoodwinked or not, lol. The DME also explained it's the same machine, the confirmation here is what I was looking for.✌
