New Cpap

Post by Dragonflyshell » Wed Apr 21, 2021 10:39 pm

Haven't been on this message board for awhile now. Started using a cpap back in 2014 and have been using it faithfully since. I was using a Philips Respironics System One cpap with wisp nosepiece. It is all I have ever used and I just looked at the last average week of AHI, which is 0.4. So it's been working for me. However I get a call from my local medical supply company and that I had the option to change the machine as they no longer have parts (or whatever) for my machine anymore. Of course I was like why not as I know many of the new machines will have wifi connection and mine only saved info to a SD disc. Today I got my new machine (I don't get to pick but I personally don't care really) and it's a Resmed Airsense 10 Auto with integrated humidifier. Haven't used it yet but now getting a bit nervous. Like I said I have not used anything else than what I originally got 7 years ago. I hadn't even realized that it's been that long. A little nervous about tonight on how it'll go. Hopefully I'll sleep with no issues. I do like that the info can easily be transmitted to an app on my phone, which I downloaded even before I left the store. A little confused on some of the settings I can do for comfort reasons and a little nervous messing with them. I guess I'll just have to experiment if the settings currently don't work for me. I'm not sure what to ask all you in regards to the machine but think I'm just posting due the excitement of a new machine as well as the worry on the change. lol

You now have the most popular (and best) machine there is, so relax and enjoy it. If you have questions, please ask in this thread.

You now have a terrific new machine -- congrats! What were your settings on the PR machine?

I switched from a PRS1 auto to a ResMed Auto and I was apprehensive too. But the first night was wonderful. The ResMed is much quieter, the algorithm was so much more comfortable, the humidifier actually works (my PRS1 humidifier died early on). So much more info is available by screen. No annoying humidifier light, and no stupid beep when you turn it on when your partner is already sleeping. I think you will love your new machine. Keep your old machine for a backup and hope you never have to use it (I have it in my go bag for California wildfires, but I would sorely miss my ResMed if I left it behind).

But did they give you the impression it would be free??? Kind of sounds like it from your post. Depends on your insurance, but unlikely.

Just made that same leap as you did, System One for 5 years and I had my first night of sleep with the AirSense 10 Auto yesterday and here are my impressions:
  • It's so quiet
  • The auto setting seems to have taken care of most of my aerophagia issues
  • Switched mask from a Mirager Quattro to an AirFit F20 ... so much more comfortable
Overall I it seems PAP treatments have lept bounds in the last 5 years, things are way better now than they were 5 years go so never look back and dare to change!

This is such a nice thread. I too have been using a System One, it seems like no matter what machine I end up with as its replacement it's going to be a much more pleasant experience if these posts are anything to go by!
