Awakening - air leak waking me up

Post by 2trahall » Sat Apr 17, 2021 10:02 pm

I've been using my CPAP for several weeks. At first, it was a dream. After one day I was more refreshed than I have in years. My daytime sleepiness was gone after one day. The most recent few nights I have been awakened by air leaks and whistling coming from my mask after a few hours. I'd like an opinion from the fine folks here on how I should adjust my device to improve my experience and health. Any input would be welcome from the group.

I’ve had this mask for one week.

What mask are you using?
How long have you been using this mask cushion?

The equipment profile list that normally shows up after each post isn't working like it should so we can't see what you are using easily or quickly.
Might want to just add your machine and mask to your signature line like I have mine.

How long have you been using this mask ....headgear and cushion? Maybe they are just tired and need replacing????
Or have you leaks always been sort of a problem?
your leaks even when not into large leak category are up there and all this points to less than optimal seal.
If you didn't spend much time in large leak territory or complain of waking up even if not in large leak territory I don't know that I would worry about it but any leak (no matter the size) that wakes us up is of course unwanted.

Do you by chance have facial hair?

I have a light beard and mustache. The mask is new and out of the box. It typically wakes me up after a few hours with discomfort to my nostrils and itching lip. In addition it blows high pressure onto my eye lids and that wakes me up.

I found that as my nasal pillows aged, I got more leaks. Depending on the mask, I would only get anywhere from 2-3 weeks use before they started leaking more, becoming unusable & needing replacement at the 3-4 week mark. Most people can go much longer. My husband goes seemingly forever and was convinced I was doing something wrong! I was one who was really glad for the Medicare replacement schedule of 2 pillows/per month (which regular insurance follows as well)!

All this was before I switched to the Bleep DreamPort. No more leaks into my eyes!
