Sanitizing a used machine?

Post by MushCreek » Sun Apr 04, 2021 7:36 am

Having 'fired' my DME supplier and sleep center, I'm going to pick up a used machine to experiment with without the pressure to 'perform' for the insurance company and doctors. How safe is a used machine? I would use a new hose, humidifier tank, and mask(s). Is there a way to sanitize a machine? I would think the machine itself would be pretty safe, but you never know what conditions are like in someone else's home.

Unless you and your house are already 'sanitized' I wouldn't worry a whole lot... and whatever you do don't get an ozone cleaning machine as they nullify warranties by wrecking the foam inside and messing up your lungs.

Before you take delivery of the machine, give the air exhaust tube a close sniff test. Remove the filter and give the air intake tube a close sniff test. If there are unwanted odors, reject the machine. Odors from smoking, etc. tend to get into the silicone parts and can be very difficult to remove.

Give a good inspection all over the outside of the machine checking for general cleanliness. Know how to check total machine hours to see what you are paying for.

Try to get a feel for how clean the seller's house might be. If he is dressed slovenly and poorly groomed, I would reject the machine.

When you get the machine home, clean the outside of the machine with a cloth. Install a new air filter.

No, just wipe down the outside of it.

That's an understatement, given time, they can be cleaned and deodorized, but it's time consuming.

I would think the machine itself would be pretty safe, but you never know what conditions are like in someone else's home.

If you have your old hose and mask bring those with you to do the sniff test mentioned. If you can't power it on to do that Do Not buy it.

DO NOT use your hose and mask to do a 'sniff test', do what Granny said, smell the machine, with it OFF, when you turn it on, any smells will be greatly diluted by the rush of air.

Enough with the bull shit. Thread is now locked.
And when it happens again....the lock button will come out sooner in other threads.
I am not in the mood for this shit.
Push me a bit more and the threads will just go poof and disappear.
