Newbie with hose and mask question

Post by thsieh0111 » Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:58 pm

Greetings! Brand new member here with a few questions that hopefully aren't too stupid.

1) I just started CPAP therapy a week ago with an Airsense 10 Autoset and a Resmed F30 full face mask. The machine came with a 6-foot Slimline hose, but I need some additional length, so I purchased a 22mm 10 footer off Amazon. Based on the research I did, the 22mm is a Standard diameter, so I switched my setting on the machine from "Slimline" to "Standard." That was the correct move, yes?

2) I toss and turn a LOT and almost exclusively side sleep. The F30 mask has been fine, but the tubing attached to the front of the mask is a pain to sleep with, so I purchased a Philips Dreamwear full face mask where it attaches to the stop of the head. Once I receive the Philips mask, is there a setting on the machine I need to change, or just switch the mask and have at it?

3) I keep my machine on the middle shelf of my nightstand. It's not "enclosed" by any means, and has approx a foot on the sides and front of clear space. Would that be sufficient in terms of ventilation for the machine?

Thanks for any help, and glad to be here!

Welcome! There are no stupid questions. I just wish I had good answers to all of yours, but I hope others will chime in.

You won’t need to change your settings as long as you are using one FFM in place of another. That much I know.

Have you looked at hose stands (aka hose lifts)? They can help a lot if you’re an active sleeper. Right now I’m liking the Houdini stand, which swivels well and collapses down to hide behind a pillow during the day. Try searching on Amazon. People also use DIY solutions for hose management.

Keep the questions coming!

Here's a pic of where I keep my machine (in regards to the ventilation question):

Thanks for the reply! I had no idea that hose lifts were even a thing, so I will definitely be checking those out. Thanks!

The air intake is on the left side of the machine, behind where the filter is. Your set-up looks just fine to me.

I have no problem with ventilation and I keep the drawer mostly closed at night.
