Suffering migraines

Post by Jackie » Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:49 pm

I am very new to sleep apnea having only recently discovered that I experience it. My problem is migraines which seem to result from the apnea and are particularly severe in certain geographic regions where the air pressure changes frequently (where I live!) I am being fitted for a CPAP machine and I have been amazingly headache free when the pressure was raised to corrrespond to my needs. I have a few questions for those who have experience/knowledge of apnea and migraines: Is there a travel-size machine that works well for you? Do you know of successes controlling aprea-related migraines with a dental apparatus plus/Vs a CPAP machine? Any particular advice for apnea + migraine sufferers?

Before CPAP I used to wake up with bad headaches that felt like migraines, complete with nausea, that were caused by oxygen deprivation. I still get nasty migraines that are triggered by certain foods but I no longer get the oxygen deprivation headaches.

I too had the same problem, but it was mild headaches. But when there was a pressure change outside... watch out, migrains big time, especially in the humid summer (I live in Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA). I've been using my CPAP for 2 years now...I've only had 1 migrain since. Had a bad night's sleep that night, woke up feeling crappy and migrainny.

I have a regular size machine. I have used the dental apparatus, but it didn't do much for me, I had it before the machine... still snored and got headaches.

Best advice I have is use the CPAP works wonders for the headaches/migraines.

You might want to purchase one of those economical battery powered blood pressure checkers....and check your BP next time you experience a headache. What you find out might be surprising. It certainly was for me!
