Where can I find information

Post by cookie246 » Sat Jan 06, 2007 7:44 pm

To help me understand my sleep study. I wont actually get my test results till i see the sleep doctor in February. I am presently waiting for the DME to call me to get my equipment. Been a long process.

I want to know what the terms mean.

What should I know before I go to the DME? I need help so that I can get the best for me. When I did the sleep study with the CPAP machine, I used the pillows and found them easy to sleep with. I did have one time I tried to take it off but woke up and readjusted the seal and back to sleep.

You need to research machines, and decide what YOU want.

You need to call your insurance and get the names of all the DME's you can use with your insurance.

You need to go to your doc and get your prescription and copies of your sleep studies so you can buy your equipment at the vendor of your choice, not necessarily where they fax your stuff, and so you can check that the set up on the machine is correct.

You need to make sure you have been prescribed a machine that collects useful data or better, and that you have a heated humidifier included.

You need to determine what features are important, exhale relief, data, auto altitude adjustment, etc and for some of this you need to know your pressure (on the prescription and the sleep studies).

You need to be researched and prepared to know if you are handed a machine you don't want'

You need to know your insurance deductable and copay so you can tell if using insurance is even worth it.

Welcome to the forum!

Start with this link:

Also, the yellow lightbulb above.

And do lots of reading on this forum. You have lots of learning ahead but you have a little time before you have to go back to get your test results.

Best wishes,
