Lifespan of a Phillips Dreamstation

Post by bcfd36 » Tue Feb 23, 2021 6:50 pm

I've had my Dreamstation for just over 3 years. I am happy with it. However, I am wondering about the normal lifespan of these machines. Am I approaching it's demise or does it have a few years left in it?

I do not have a backup. - I'd delete this post, but there is no delete button for this one.

I know the Resmed machines are designed for 20k run/blower hours. I would assume that the Dreamstations are similar.

NOT saying your dreamstation is ready to pop it's clogs or anything. but it's prolly a good idea to get a new one. it's always good to have a spare, because these things tend to break without much warning and your left with nothing.

if you are paying out of pocket, you might consider a lightly used machine from forum member lsat.

if you have your prescription handy, you might want to deal with secondwindcpap.com.

Five years used to be the standard usage for a machine, but most of the newer machines will last longer than that. My current machine is a little over five years old and is working just fine. I do, however, have a backup machine available if mine should fail. The last time I was at the sleep clinic (December), they asked me if I wanted a prescription for a new machine. I told them I would wait until mine failed before I got a new prescription. You can often find low hour machines available on Craig's List or Facebook Marketplace. Members of this forum also often sell used machines.

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

Always a good idea to have backups, spare parts, etc.
Stuff breaks down.
DME normal business hours: maybe 9-5 M-F and no weekends.
Plenty of time for failures when help is hours, or days away.
Most of us turn our machines on after the DME is home;
so we never know about a death on the end table until the dealer is not available.
