Squeaky Mask?

Post by CGH » Sat Dec 30, 2006 10:49 pm

I am using a Fisher & Paykel Flexifit mask. I have only been using the CPAP machine for 1 month or so. I have noticed at night that when I turn the two swivel joints on the front of the mask squeak. I have been putting the mask swivel joints under a stream of water to lubricate them before going to bed but through the night the water evaporates and the mask will begin squeaking again. It isn't real bad but does wake me up from time to time. Has anyone run across this and what did you do to resolve the squeak OR did you just live with it?!!!
Thanks,
Chris

I have the same problem with the Respironics Comfort Classic. There are plenty of lubricants that would probably stop the squeak but I'm afraid that anything I'd use might emit potentially dangerous particulates into the air that I'd be breathing. I'd certainly welcome recommendations for a safe plastic lubricant.

Why not just call the company and ask them about it? They have a website.

How about a touch of vaseline? take the swivel apart and very lightly lubricate only the surface where the plastic rubs together. Should work and would be safe.

A tiny dab of vasoline should do the trick. You probably wouldn't need much to stop the annoying squeak

My Fisher and Paykel mask squeaks also, but only when I whip the hose above me head as I turn over, and then every once in awhile to make sure the hose isn't blocking the vents. It usally isn't really loud in my case. I'm not sure about the vaseline answer, but the FP website will respond to questions if you ask them. They did for me in less that 2 working days.

I use a dab of olive oil.

I apply a very small amount of blistex to it when mine squeaks. Handy at the night table. Just apply once between cleanings. Works great for me!

KY jelly - it is water based and will not leave any residue once evaporated.

The KY Jelly was a solution for me. I put it on the inside of the swivel joints. Thanks for the great tip!

I was also going to add that chapstick works well also.

I have the same problem. I am using a Mirage Activa mask and the swivel squeaks as well.T I think all of the solutions here sound good. KY may be the least possible of causing damage, but it will probably dry out through the night as opposed to the vaseline which should stay quite viable for a long long time until you clean the mask.
